2000 F150 XLT stereo question(s)

I have the stock AM/FM Cassette head unit but it has all the buttons for the CD changer and stuff. I know that this year F150 came with a remote 6 disk CD changer option (which I don't have).
1 - where was the changer mounted?
2 - should the wiring harness still be there even if it did not come with the changer?
3 - How easy is it to get a basic after-market CD changer to plug into this head unit?
I am not looking for a thousand dollar window breaker, just something to play the occasional CD . . .

Thanks for any ideas!
