Are you using the tools that go in the holes on each side? When you insert the removal tool into the holes the clips will release and the unit should slide out.

If you don't have/can't afford/don't want to buy the tools to pull it out, you can use hex (Allen) wrenches. Just take two that are similar sizes that slide into the holes, push away from the unit, and with one hand pushing on the wrences, use the other pull it out. Just pop it out one side at a time.

You probably need a set of DIN removal tools which are available for under $5 at any Wal-Mart or ebay. The kit consists of two "U" shaped pieces of wiring slightly thinner than the wire used for making a clothes hanger. The factory stereo will have two DIN holes on both the left and right side. The OEM radio is held in place by a spring clip on each side and the DIN tools just push the clip out of the way so you can pull the head unit out.

In the past, I've used allen wrenches, DMM leads, drill bits, etc... instead of the proper DIN tools (with mixed results).

I found that a couple of 2" finish nails work very well. They are sturdier than using clothes hangers and other things.
