Adapter cable question

I went to Metra's site and found the harness I needed part # 70-5520.

I ordered one from the the shop next to our store, he has it backordered for a few weeks now.

So I called Circuit City and went and picked one up this evening, it is a Metra part # 80-5520

the pack says 03 and up ford to universal smart cable.

It looks similar to the pic on the metra site, but difficult to say for sure.

Anyone know anything about this, i haven't gotten the stereo out of the truck yet so I can't try to plug it in.

thanks

dave

Man... I just searched through all my stero paperwork, thinking I could help you out... but I can't find the harness model number I have.

The reason I wanted to help you out, is because I thought it'd be damn simple to get the harness, since it's never been an issue with any vehicle I've installed a stereo in before. Apparently this is not the case with the '04-'06 Fords...

I stopped in to my local Car Toys, and asked for a wiring harness for my make and model truck. They brought one out to me, and I bought it, assuming they knew what they were doing, ya know being installers and all. So I get home, and it isn't even CLOSE to the right one, I have no idea what vehicle this fits, but it certainly wasn't a Ford harness. So I go back to Car Toys. The guy I talked to before is busy, so I end up talking to some other guy. He brings me out another harness. I look at it, and tell him that it isn't even a harness, it's an adapter for hooking up a factory subwoofer. He goes back and grabs a different harness and comes out with it. It still isn't the right one! I tell him, "Dude, will you just come out to my truck and look?" So I popped the dash open and showed him. He goes back in and talks to one of the installers. He then comes back to me and says, "Yeah, we don't have that one." Since then, I haven't set foot in a Car Toys.

I ended up going down the street to Magnolia A/V, where one of their guys was happy to come out and look, even though he already had a good idea of which one I needed. He went back inside, and handed me the RIGHT harness FINALLY!!! I've been buying my stuff from him ever since. Well except for the PAC mods... those are way cheaper elsewhere. I'm surprised Car Toys is still in business. I can't tell you how many times I've heard negative comments from that place. I'm sure they've done right by some people, but c'mon! If you can't get a silly ass harness right, how do you expect me to come in here and spend money on an install!? (not that I'd ever let someone do an install on one of my vehicles... that's 90% of the fun!)

Anyway, wow.. I blathered on forever! I guess what I'm trying to tell you, is that if you think you have the wrong harness, you probably have the wrong harness. But I just realized, I don't even know what year of Ford you have, so all this typing was for nothing. Well, it was probably for nothing anyway.. Hahaha I need to go to bed.
