Help me out. Alpine DVA-9861 vs. Eclipse CD5000

Stage 1 of my SQ system is going to be the HU. I have it narrowed down to the Apline DVA-9861:

And the Eclipse CD5000:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Q8lga9Q...&search=cd5000

I'm not actually going to be using DVD ever, or at least any time in the foreseeable future but when dealing with Alpine's '06 models that seems to be the only option for the higher end models. Seems like Alpine went for a "go big or go home" metality this year.
The Eclipse has a cool little NAV feature...Cooly useless when living in a small town of only 86,000 people.
Both those options are things I'd be paying for when its not really neccessary but that seems to be the way its going to have to go but all of their other options seem to be very similar.

What would you pick of those two and why? Or if you have another suggestion I'm all ears (eyes).

I'm not sure who mods this forum but maybe a poll please?

No one eh?
Well I decided on the Eclipse CD5000 mostly for the EQ and 8V preouts.

(I'm only posting this so someone might chime in with an opionon.)

I am right behind you on the CD5000. I went to look at them today and they have most of the features that I am looking for. I like the 8v preouts, the EQ, the changable displays (download new ones) and the quality look of it. HD and sat ready. You need to buy a GPS105 to get the nav. to work but I don't need that either. I am running all JL Audio speakers and 2-10" JL subs thru a JL 500/5. This HU with 6v preouts will be very sweet indeed. My ears hurt just thinking about it......Cheers, Blue

Good call. I've decided against the Apline but added in the Pioneer Premiere 880PRS. I like the plain look of the Pioneer, not as busy as the Eclipse.
I started this thread in July and still don't have an HU. One reason is funds. I went back to school and $2500 had to go to my first semester, and the second reason is I can't decide between these two now.

Well if I get mine in, I will get you my review on the CD5000. I was looking at the Kenwood DPX-701 because of the double din and sub perouts and the Alpine cda-9857 then I was looking at the DVD/CD units ( big bucks). the more I looked the more "confusedered" I got. Now I got to go have a peek at the Pioneer....... Cheers, Blue

Well, Now you went and dun it. After looking over your Pioneer P880, That is the unit for me. I am not big on dancing dolphins and swimming fish. I just want great SQ. This unit deserves a long hard look. Very adjustable 16 band EQ or auto EQ, auto time aligment, DSP, 3-5v pre-outs, auto slide face, direct sub control, supertuner III and for about $300 on eBay(new). Check it out: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...159496,00.html Cheers, Blue

Sorry man, did you already order the CD5000?

I know all about both the CD5000 and the 880PRS. I was all ready to get the Pioneer but the only place in town that sells it wanted $850 or something rediculas like that I'm against eBay for warrenty reasons. eBay is great if you don't have any problems with your hardware but if something goes wrong you're paying for shipping to get it back to the manufacturer (assuming you bought it from an authorized dealer) and you've got a big empty whole in your dash for a week or so. Anyways I found a great deal in Vancouver when I went (3.5 hours away) but they were sold out and he said he'd call when he gets a new shipment. That was early August.
Ah well, right now the funds are short because I've started school again so I guess I'll just have to play the game of "pick the best HU" again next year when the new models come out.
