2 questions...

First off is this a decent head unit...
http://cgi.ebay.com/JVC-KD-LHX550-TO...QQcmdZViewItem

I really want it for the SD card slot, that's brilliant.

Also the second question is, what kit is this?
http://www.f150online.com/galleries/...367-148884.jpg

I want my unit to be nice and flush. If I have a place like Best buy install the unit can they get it to look that nice? I cant install stereos and will pay a professional, but I want it to look THAT nice.

That's my kit. It's the one that came from Crutchfield. I can't recall the brand, but I have never seen an install kit that nice from Circuit City or Best Buy. The ones from there usually don't sit perfectly flush or they have weird shaped, unusual sized pockets on the bottom. I would figure out what brand Crutchfield uses and try to get a hold of that one. It really fits beautifully. I was worried about how the kit for the single DIN head unit would look at first, but I am EXTREMELY happy with the fit and finish of this one. If I didn't know any better I'd say that that was the way the dash was designed. And that large pocket is very useful. It easily swallows my iPod, wallet, and cell phone. I placed a Sticky Pad in there and nothing slides either.

What about this kit?
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-fQEVWKA...MK550&g=112200

This one says it's for Ford/Mazda pickups though... I'm thinking Rangers.

Oh yeah, who did your install?

I don't know about either of those kits. I just got whatever they give you for free when you purchase the radio. I didn't have to pick a size or anything. Maybe if you put a radio in your shopping cart it might tell you what model # kit it comes with and you could go from there.

And as for the install, I did it myself. It was actually very easy, and I'm not really into car audio wiring and all that stuff. The instructions that Crutchfield gives you are easy to follow and everythings included. I just went to the hardware store and got some butt connectors so I didn't have to solder the wires and then just matched them up using the diagrams. That's really all there is to it.

The big pocket on that kit makes it the Metra. Metra uses a pocket that is almost as big as a single din. If you buy a Metra kit from Crutchfield they usually include a double din (two single din units) kit also.

The single din kit from Scoschc has a much smaller pocket, and has a nicer texture than the Metra. This does not show in Jpgs on the web.
You can usually get this cheap from Wal-Mart

I have used all three of the mounts.

Plus for the Metra is if you want to carry a LOT of junk in the pocket.
Plus for the Scoschc is it looks better installed, you can't see into the bottom of the smaller pocket.

On the big pocket units they make drawers that you can put in them. You see these on eBay sometimes. The drawer fits flush, and is about the size for a wallet or pocket gear.

While the smaller pocket or no pocket tends to look better in the 04 up trucks, I do admit that when I had the Metra big pocket in my truck I did use that pocket for various things, and sorta miss it now that I have a KVC-AWX706 filling the whole double din hole.

Scoschc and Metra single din units. Note the bigger pocket on the Metra.

On that JVC EXAD, I have not used that model, but I just installed a 706 in my truck and I found the sound is good and it is well optioned.
As a plus the SD chip feature works better than JVC says.

It's faster to load than an MP3 DVD and I am using a 1 gig SD but in the manual it recommends only a 512. I have read a review that states it will do a 4 gig SD. SD chips rule.

Thanks tons guys! Chris, what is thie "706" you speak of? I googled around and was looking for that and came up with this... http://www.jvc-victor.co.jp/english/...700/index.html

Is that what you have? If I were to get that then I wouldn't need one of those elaborate kits right? I mean I'd need something, but it's a double din. Do you have pics of yours?

not too sure if you're still looking for the part number for the metra kit but it's metra #99-5807 and the wiring harness is #70-5520. the metra kit also comes with both a single din and double din included with all of the side brakets that you'll need to install that radio. its also pretty hard to mess this kit up, they come with detailed instructions on installing the kit and all of the wires are colorcoded to the new radios wires.

Didn't see this post. Yup that is the 706, but you still need a double din adaptor. The hole in the dash is half an inch wider than a double din. The Metra kit is about a twenty dollar bill shipped, or perhaps Wal-Mart now stocks a double din kit for less.

Rather than link to the other forum we are in

is a picture of my 706 installed. Note the 'frame' or adaptor around it. That is one big hole in the dash on the new body trucks.
