06 lariat steering wheel controls question

Anyone know if i replace my head unit, do i just loose the radio controls in the steering wheel or do i also loose the temp controls as well?

I just got a 06 lariat screw and want to put my alpine system back into this truck.

On that note, has anyone found a way to retain the steering wheel controls with an aftermarket head unit without havin to butcher wiring?

With my Kenwood nav, I lost my volume and seek controls.
I still retained my temp and fan control.
I had to use a PAC-SWI switch. The local stereo shop installed it, so I have no idea how too.

smoke,

Im thinking about changing my Head Unit, and also purchasing the adpater to save my steering wheel contorls. since you have experience with the adapter. can you tell me if there is any sort of delay from when you press the button on your steering wheel to when the receiver reacts to this signal. I read other reviews that state that there is a 1 second delay. Is this true??
