IPod keeps freezing with Alpine HU

Y'all,

I've had the Alpine CDA-9851 with the KCA-420i IPod adapter for a little less then a year now, and although I'm mostly pleased with it... as of late on occasion, the HU will stop reading the ipod, and when I unplug my IPod from the adapter, it is frozen on the Alpine screen.

It refuses to reboot when try to turn it off or reset it, and my computer doesn't recognize it. I end up having to wait a couple days for the battery to die before I can use it again.

Has this been happening to anyone else?

I have heard of plenty of stories, exactly like yours. I believe that is why Alpine changed their configuration for 2006 models, and instituted the new cable type adapter.

I have the CDE-9852 with the KCE-422i iPod cable. It works flawlessly, and is lightning fast compared to last years models with the adapter box.

I am sorry I can't help, other than confirm that it is a known problem with Alpine, and that they have changed directions.

I have the 9855 and the adapter box, and the only issue (w/ the iPod) I have is I usually have to open the glove box and touch the iPod scroll wheel to get the HU to find it. I love this HU, but I hate that damn glidetouch bar! It would be nice if you could search the iPod quicker, but the trick is to have several playlists. Still, now that the 9857 is available, I'm planning to pick one up.

I've had 3 different iPods over the last 4 years, and have never had a problem that a simple reset wouldn't fix. The only thing I can think of to suggest is to make sure the HU is powered off before removing the iPod from the cable, but i don't know from experience whether this will help or not.
