Question CD-6 Button Illumination and Display help

I got mine working just finely and upon installing it I ran into a problem. This came from a 2003 and mines a 1998.I got the harnesses from Best Buy and wired it up.(I'm an electrician so it wasnt hard at all)There is a dimmer hot and then a dimmer ground and then an illumination wire on the factory side of the new harness only problem is that the reverse harness with the world plug at the other end doesnt have a dimmer hot,It only has a dimmer ground and an illumination. So the only way to get the buttons to illuminate at night is to tie the dimmer wire from the factory side to the illumination on the world plug but it dims the display when i turn on the lights. Is this normal for this unit?I would think the display would dim during the day when the lights were off if anything. Is there another wire in here im missing?I'm at a loss!

I believe this is by design, I know when I turn on my light my radio dims as well. Hope this helps but is sounds like you got it right. Please note I am not by any means a radio expert nor an electrician.

I got mine off of Ebay and it ran 115 bucks but they get up to around 250.I really wouldnt recommend getting a CD-6 that has to be shipped because just about all of them have jammed mechanisms from the shipping.I had to take mine apart to fix it BUT I'm also an Electrician with alot of experience in Electronics.I would go with a regular cd player and you know your going to have to modify (cut part of the inside if the radio bezel out)the dash for anything you upgrade to and your going to have to purchase a harness for the old ford 8pin plugs that we have and a reverse harness with the world plug on the other side.(Best Buy has both of these for around 40 bucks and their color coordinated.)You have to tie the dimmer wire from the old plugs harness side to the illumination wire on the new world plugs harness in order for the buttons to illuminate with the dash lights.Give me a shout later and I can help you with that.
