Question 97-03 HU Interchangability?

Just exactly what years are interchangeable.I bought a CD6 off of Ebay that the guy believes came out of a 2003 F-150 and if not it was an earlier year.I was pretty sure that since the body's are the same in these years that the wiring should be the same but I have heard some doubts.I have a 98 F-150 and I'm starting to worry that it wont be the same plugs.I know I have to modfiy the bracket in the back no matter what,I just wanted to know If the plugs are goig to be the same or is an adapter or even even having to splice the new plugs into the old wiring my alternatives? One way or another its going in there!

Smile newer head unit into 97

I'm in the process of installing a newer CD head unit (from a 2001 F-150) into my '97 F-150. Today I removed the steel bracket (without having to cut anything) and test fit the unit into the opening. It fits perfectly. In order to remove the steel bracket without cutting, you will need to remove about ten screws from the surrounding dash panels and eventually you will remove the three screws that hold the steel bracket in place. Two of these screws are threaded from front to rear (that is, you have to reach into the cavity that the HU comes out of and feel them with your fingers. You can easily get a wrench on them.

I've spent some time looking around for wiring for the HU as well as the 6CD changer that is also from a 2001 F150. I think that this site www.radiosandmore.com has everything you will need. I'm not certain if your '98 HU has the older style plugs or the newer "world plug" style but it will be obvious once you look at them and the information on www.installdr.com ( or just google the part number from your HU), in any case radiosandmore sells a simple adaptor (part number ADP1) for $25 http://www.radiosandmore.com/prod_detail.asp?pn=ADP1 that will keep you from having to hack up the vehicle wiring.

good luck, hope this helps.

I received my CD6 yesterday and I got the old 8 pin to world plug harnesses from best buy.Pretty simple to install as they were color coordinated.I got everything wired up and I was ready to go!I Hooked up the cd-6 and to my disbelief it said the cd bays were full and there was an error!!! I emailed the guy from ebay and asked him If i could open it to see if something simple was jamming the changer mechanism and he agreed but it was to no avail! This thing was creepy on the inside!springs everywhere and the trays were barely held in there and they were flimsy plastic at that!! I would have thought better of ford than to make something of this caliber.I'm getting a refund from this guy and I WILL NOT be getting another cd6.Im going to get the single player with changer controls with an underseat changer wich i'll probably modify and have it sitting under my center armrest/console since i always keep it down anyways and call it good!
