Question Adding an amp w/stock head unit

I have the 6-disk CD non audiophile and I'm looking to add an amp and two subs in the back while keeping the stock head unit.

My amp has high-level speaker inputs...so, I was thinking I could intercept the rear left and right speaker wires to get a signal to the amp and power the rear speakers at the same time.

Has anyone done this before? I’m wondering if this will create a problem, under power the rear speakers? Less sound quality? Strain the head unit?

Also, in the future I plan to replace the factory speakers and add a second amp for them. My current amp has pre-amp outputs making it easy to add a second one but even then I plan to keep the factory deck will that create a problem too?

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

This will not create any problems. Speaker will still get the same amount of power, no extra strain on the HU.

Sound quality is a small issue if your an SQ freak. The benifits of low level RCA's are much better compared to using high inputs. Most people probably wont notice a huge difference though.
No problem with adding a second amp later on.

I added a 4 channel amp to my stock headunit, put Alpine R series component speakers in the front and regular R series in the back it sounds awesome. I'm hate subwoofers though, so I can't help ya there.

Check this out:

clicky

I'm probably going to get one of these, since I want better sound, but I like the look and function of the stock unit.
