Does anyone know of a good head unit that also has a stock look and fit to it? I dont want a crazy light show or a ridiculous LCD screen , but I want a OEM like fit, without the little pocket for 1-DIN units... Anyone have any recomendations???
Not without some minor modifications. I was assuming you were referring to the 04-05 F150's. My bad. I have seen these put in those trucks, but apparently you have to grind the opening a bit for it to fit (there are some pics in the gallery you could find if you searched for them). Probably wouldn't qualify as a nice OEM type look though.
Anyone know if this fits in the 97? I have this unit in my Grand Prix and I love it , but crutchfield says it wont fit in the truck. I know it wont fit in my 96 Town Car because of the AC ducts behind the dash, but unsure about the F150..
Thanks

Pull it out and try it? My guess is it's longer than it should be and thats why crutchfield says no. But it might fit with minor mods. Pull and check with yours might work should only take a few minutes to do it.
I just put an amp and alpine component speaker behind my stock headunit....sounds great, and ya can't look more stock than stock. Hopefully my XM radio unit won't tip off thieves that there is anything in there worth stealing.
Be like me and leave your stock HU in it's place, then utilize the area where the ashtray is for a regular din unit. With some smart thinking, you can use the ashtray door(with velcro) to hide your aftermarket unit completely from prying eyes. To acheive this, you would obviously have to do some smart thinking to recess your aftermarket HU about a 1/4 inch. I came up with this idea because I wanted my dash to look as stock as humanly possible.
I had this in my '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport... it fit great and worked Awesome... I ran new stuff (JL Audio amp for mids & tweets) and old school Fosgate Power 300 to two Fosgate Pro 10's (I still have the 10"s ). This unit has a ton of adjustments and a separate sub out which is nice. It also came with a remote and I had and optional remote from Pioneer that attached to the steering wheel. It's a 1.5 din and should fit most any of those apps, depth could possibly be an issue. Pioneer should have a measurement dia on their site... just search for the model number.
I would like one of these for my truck and from what you all are saying about it, that would be a good choice for my truck. I do not know if a person could get a conversion kit to fit the '97 hole without an expensive conversion kit that you would have to order from Ford or Pioneer.

THats a Chrysler fit. Its a little wider than the ford 1.5 din. Just get a single din with the pocket. It looks pretty good.
thats the whole thing I'm trying to avoid. I think a single DIN looks like crap in a big 1.5 or 2 din slot. you either have a WORTHLESS pocket or a big cheap, crappy looking plastic filler piece. Makes a nice interior look like garbage. Why does every stereo maker stick with this format??? Fewer and fewer cars have a single din slot these days, and it seems like there are fewer and fewer big radios being made. Its starting to chap my ass.
