Mark viii fan with a custom made relay harness as a controller, I have about $60 into my entire setup

You can pick these fans up on ebay for around $50-70 or pull one from a lincoln mark viii in a junk yard for less, make sure to get a 2 speed fan

Convenience is worth something, too. Although, with the DIY answer staring at me, the Troyer kit doesn't seem to make as much sense.
