lets talk SnapOn tool boxes
Late 09 I purchased a red box. It was a good box but my tools quickly out grew it.
In 2012 I picked up the black box combo for additional space, and was quickly maxed out on space again.
So in Spring 2013 I traded the red one in and bought the silver box. Im a sucker for silver.
Recently my tool purchases have slowed down, and I don't need more volume than I already have. I wanted to have a single tool box and did lots of research, but unfortunately SnapOn doesn't build what I want. So I got a wild idea, and traded the black combo in for a box very similar volume, but much more useable space.
Here's my journey from there:
I ordered a matching single bay cabinet, modified it to mount and fit with my current box
I had to swap the shorter (light duty) casters for the taller (heavy duty) casters, which required some light modification to get them mounted.
Got it mounted together, looking pretty good
It really does look good, but it didn't quite have the fully custom look I was after. Since SnapOn doesn't actually make this combo as a single tool box, they don't offer a top for it. So I decided to make a top for it.
I bought Oak faced plywood, cut, routered, stained, and sealed it. Pretty happy with the results, and it really helps tie the box together.
I promise im only a little OCD

Looks good Patman. The thing with a box that size is if someone is big enough to carry it off then you better let them have it!
Also you are in denial about tool purchases slowing down, I 62 years old and can't use all the stuff I have and I'm always looking for more.........it's a sickness you know!

Can't take a picture of my small 36" Snap-on at work, no cameras allowed, and can't justify it for at home. So here goes my short timeline of tool boxes.
Was bumming off my dads garage until I was about 21, who could blame me though...
As you can see my dad raised me a Craftsman man. So here was the first tool box and decent tool set I bought. Great set of basic tool did most of the fabrication on my 32 ford and almost all of the work on our 65 F100. Now it holds my sprinkler equipment and some lawn tools.
Then bought a top and bottom Husky tool box full of cheap tool for $100 from a roommate. The craftsman tool box on top was to replace the plastic box, has another drawer and more sturdy for the more tools I stuffed it with. Now the husky is empty and waiting for a cool day to make room in the shed for it.
Now on to my current tool box, wanted to get a Snap-on or at least a Craftsman. Took me a long time to break down and buy a Harbor Freight tool box, but very glad I did. Great quality for the amount of use it gets, and very affordable. Also my dad taught me how to make a good work bench, so I prefer tall tool boxes and a separate bench.
Had to label the drawers so that the girlfriend could quickly find the tools I was asking for. Luckily I didn't have to explain what I was asking for, just what drawer it was in.
Bench, and dog...
Not as impressive on the inside as Pat's but couple shots inside, mainly Craftsman, couple things hear and there of others
Two drawers like this one metric, one sae, another for crescent and random wrenches I have, need more organization though.
Looking to get a new complete set of sockets and wrenches. Instead of buying the ones I need to fill up what I have. Keep these as spares and a second set and have a nice new full set.
That's about it for now, the tool box is probably 80% full for now so should last me a couple years before I grow out of it. Need a bigger garage before that though. Next house will have a separate shop in the back.

Thanks. I'm very proud of my setup. That's why I wanted to share it.
