Jimmie Rodgers was popular back in the 1920's when my dad was a boy. They have a museum in Meridian, Miss. for him. He died from TB at a young age.

Country is splitting into different sub genres. I still like some older country but I love country music because of the more value based lyrics and cleaner language plus the beat. I don't like "rap" but I like it when it is done in a nice way and not degrading towards women or referencing drugs.

An example

This group I've been listening to before they were on the radio. They are setting records and have been the fastest growing group since Brooks and Dunn. It's not for everyone, but it's just of the country styles out there. I still love George Strait and Alan Jackson is one of the best in my mind. Just different tastes and appreciations.

Yup, it started with Garth Brooks and went downhill from there. Carrie Underwood and the like now can take their pop garbage and go jump in a lake.

Have a Conway Twitty CD in the player right now actually.

The radio sucks no matter what kind of music youre listening to. Even the local classic rock station plays the same songs over and over despite having 40+ years of music to pick from.

Ive always got a cd in my F150 and my new E350 work van has an ipod jack so I can choose which of the 3500+ songs I want to listen to.

I like alot of country singers that never get airplay on the radio. One that always ends up in my truck's cd player is Chase Rice. Brantley Gilbert and Florida Georgia Line are starting to get some airplay but I was listening to them before they were on the radio. Gotta love torrents for new music.

I also listen to country rap like The Lacs and Jawga Boyz.

Here's a question for those who are older county fans, those who are the die-hard Hank, Johnny, and Waylon fans. Out of today's country artists, who do you feel best represents true country music?

PawPaw pretty well summed it up there! I don't think that any of the newcomers now are anything like country. It's more Pop than anything, and I guess they aren't selling enough albums over there, so release it on the country side and see what happens? Of course it depends on how "new" you are talking about?
