How about explaining the lack of gun rights. I had a group of Canadian pilots on the ranch about 3 years ago and they never had seen such an "arsenal" ....and I don't have many. But they bought all of the ammo within 50 miles and yeah, that's no lie, they bought ALL of the ammo within 50 miles, and had a field day. Apparently you can't just reach in the closet and walk out the back door and shoot anywhere in Canada. While I would agree it's a fabulous place to visit, I wouldn't want to live there. Far too many on the east coast with weird ideas about how folks should live.......kinda like the US.
Im not going to get into the whole gun agruement crap again, but your right. Where i am you cant "go into the closet, walk out the back door and shoot" because youd be shooting up one of the local truck parts stores I dont think people would like buying an alternator with a hole in it

I like our health care, as I said before yes we have our issues. It usually revolves around keeping costs down and patient care up. Because everyone can get health care we sometimes get over zealous parents in the hospital way to often. I would say if your neighbours are making $20 or $30k more a year, I could handle the insurance payments too.

There are probably a few reasons for that. 1.) Most cities have bylaws prohibiting the firing of firearms within city limits. 2.) National parks have prohibited hunting. 3.) We dont have the gun culture like you do in the US. People here even who can have 300 weapons dont usually see the point. As far as I know, besides us having a bit more restricted list of restricted weapons it is quite similar. Also you cannot have a handgun out of a lock box or assembled in a vehicle. So road rage incidents are down.
I know when I go to vegas it is the nostalgia of firing the shotguns at the range (with the golf carts). I have a lot of fun with it but I dont run back home wanting to buy a bunch.

This is an excellent thread. I live in NW Montana, spend a fair amount of time in Alberta and BC on vaca and love our nieghbors to the north.
BUT..........
Mention was made as to the price of goods (retail, presumably) and it is true that it costs a bit more for the same things up yonder, SOME of the difference is taken up by the exchange rate between our dollars. The Loonie is worth slightly LESS than the dollar. Today, $0.927 to our $1.00. While this does not eliminate the price differeance, it does mitigate it some.
Also, the DAMN gun restrictions are a pain in the arse. I tried to put together a hunt a few years ago and found it irratating. When I did some investigation with the possibility of moving north for my home, I found there was NO way of bringing my "arsenal" (between 1 and 72, roughly )
All in all, a great place to visit. Still not the perfect health care system, or taxation processs. But I really like the conservitive values.

I never really knew much about Canada, but it from what you guys are sayin it sounds like a nice place.

Actually, where my mom lives it's sort of like that.
There's an old T-bird on blocks in the front yard, another in the backyard, cows are loose everywhere, and you can hear the banjo music playing deep in your imagination.

All I can say is that with all the stupid crap I've done, injury brokenbone-wise, that if I lived in the US I'd have declared bankruptcy at least 3 times trying to pay the medical bills. It may not be the best but its far from the worst.
