This is absolutely correct...

How often do you tow?? And why do you have to maintain 40mph in the mountains?? Slow down, take it easy, let the truck do less work.

For me, there's no way I would trade ride quality and horrible daily fuel mileage for the once or twice a month I tow...

And added cost of insurance, parts, etc.

This is a money losing argument here. Suck it up, drive your truck a little better, slow down and keep your truck.

The OP says this is almost exclusively for towing, NOT used as a daily driver..........

For that use I'd take that V10 SD over any F150, whether it's a 5.0, Ecoboost, or whatever.

Couldn't agree more. It's very easy until you own a powerful tow rig to say otherwise. Having power on tap towing is important. My father has a 2004.5 Dodge 2500 Cummins and it tows our heavy TT effortlessly. Previous tow vehicles pale in comparison towing this same trailer. Someone going slow, pass them no problem. Steep grade, no sweat. That reserve is so important and running maxed out is foolish. If you're towing enough, you need a better tow vehicle. Whether high powered gas or diesel you just don't realize it until you make the jump. Much more comfortable towing as well because your focusing less on the shortcomings of the tow vehicle and more on the idiots and road around you.

The Ecoboost would PULL just as well as the V10, but the OP also said:

I'm also limited on payload after I load generator, bikes, and firewood in the bed along with the family I'm at or over what the truck can handle according to the door sticker.
This is where a 3/4 ton truck will help a lot.

My 3v v10 does the job fine towing or not. Has plenty of power for me and I drive her 50 miles a day at 12mpg.
