Test drove a 95 F-350, couple questions for the diesel experts

Hey All:

Drove a 95 F350 yesterday, has 140000 miles. Ran great, truck is very very clean. Thinking about buying it.

When we first started it up, it had a mild idle romp for about 5 seconds.

Also, when coming down off highway speed once or twice it made what sounded like a knocking sound, but then it sort of melded into the regular diesel idle if that makes any sense. It didn't do it every time.

Last, when getting off the gas, it seemed like the truck slowed down pretty fast, like when you're in a low gear on a stick car (truck is an automatic). Nothing crazy, but noticeable.

Does this sound like anything to worry about or is it perhaps a symptom of some serious problem?

Thanks for any help
Steve

Romping is normal, especially when cold. I'm not sure what you mean by a knocking sound. And as for the coasting, mine will coast for a pretty long time since diesel engines don't engine brake like a gas motor will...
