Question Diesel Delete Pipe

I was looking into deleting my muffler by installing a delete pipe on my 2005 F350 6.0 Diesel. Has anybody removed there muffler?

What are you trying to accomplish? more power? more sound?
I know of lots of guys running a full straight pipe, alot more turbo whine, sounds good IMO up until about 2500rpm, then it gets too loud for me when in the city. I deleted my cat and put in a magnflow muffler, more turbo whine (but not lots like when straight piped) and a nice throaty V8 sound. You can buy cat delete pipes and muffler deletes, but its honestly probably cheaper to just take it too an exhaust shop and have them weld in a piece of pipe for $50.
As for power increase, you wont notice much, seems to spool up the turbo a bit quicker off the line.

Question Diesel Delete Pipe

I called a local muffler shop and he told me the 6.0 will not sound any better than if I deleted the muffler. I want to get the sound as close as I can to my 5.4 with a flowmaster muffler. The stock muffler needs more bark!

Deleting the muffler will just make a loud screamin turbo.

You want your diesel engine to sound like your gas engine? To me the diesel sound speaks for itself. It has the sound that says "yeah, I'm bad!"

Diesel Delete Pipe

I want the sound of my Diesel not the muffler sound! I'am intrested in the amount of cab noise. The local muffler shop told me there will be a little more noise without a muffler but not much. If I remove the cat it will be loud.

I am confused now, can you type in here the sound you are looking for?
my cammed stang makes this sound ......bubbubbubbbbbubbubbbubbbub
my 6.0L makes this one.....szszwszszszszszszszs with some grrgrrrrgrrgrrrrgrrr all at the same time

but...
If you want mean turbo whine (the szsszszzs sound) with lots of noise, delete cat and muffler.

If you want semi-mean turbo and throaty V8 sound, delete cat and install magnlflow muffler (what I did)

If you want just a slight V8 throaty sound, leave cat in and install magnaflow (this is what I did at first, but it is a barely even noticable sound)

I don't know what a muffler delete with the cat still in sounds like.

If you got money burnin a hole in your pocket and want the best performance, shell out for a full turbo back 4" stainless MBRP kit or any other brand of your choice.

Not sure about the sound, but if removing the muffler actually increases the flow rate of your exhaust, you should see lower EGT's. I can't see how that would be a bad thing at all.

Im running without a muff or cat on my '96 Powerstroke.

Its a bit loud at wide open throttle, but otherwise barely louder than stock.

But it did provide a MAJOR increase in power. And incresed my peak boost from 13lbs to nearly 20lbs.

Nothing is sexier that hearing the whistling noise of a 6.0 PS Diesel if you want sound try a Cummins powered Dodge with no cat no muffler sounds like a freaking semi. 6.0 PS Diesel whislting noise is just as good as listening to a high revving V12 Ferrari nice concerto. Ok lets not forget about the mustangs too they are cool too.

yep, been there and done it: you can get a delete pipe for the stock exaust thru "rpmoutlet". as far as in cab it's not that much louder, outside it is scary loud, ecpecially when you pass somebody on the gas, turbo whistle is loud about 5 seconds after you start the engine it starts to whine like a jet engine, the only downfall there is resonance at certain times when you get on it. if you where to jam it off the line it sounds like a big block and people look. hope that helps

Yes it did help! I removed the cat and the turbo has no lag. Before if you put your foot to the floor and count to 4 before anything happened. The down side if I use the extra boost my mileage drops.I need to train my foot and keep the rpm's under 2000. The cat was black and with a flashlight I could not see through it. I can not here any difference with the cat removed.
