gas mileage with V10?? (i posted this but it didnt show up, REPEAT TOPIC)

can anyone tell me what they are getting as far as gas mileage with the F-250 4x4 crew with a V10 motor??

I average just under 11 mpg, with only 2000 miles driven. When I tow my fifth wheel its about 8.

My F-250 CC 4x4 long bed, 3.73 5.4L V-8 is getting on average 12.5 mpg. The V-10 is not much less and it might only cost you an extra $300/year in added fuel if you drive15K/yr. The V-10 is the way to go.

Post V10 MPG...

Mine is getting 11.5 to 12.5 mpg for 50/50 mixed city & highway driving and a little over 14 for strict highway miles doing 65 to 70 mph.

Not bad for a 6800lb pickup. I often tow a 16x7 enclosed cargo trailer which weighs 4000 to 6500lbs and it gets around 10mpg towing that on the highway.

Mine has 3.73 axle, 285/75R16 (33 inch) tires and 29500 miles. Has the auto transmission and no bed cover. The motor and drivetrain has been 100% trouble free and it has plenty of power at all speeds and is a blast to drive!

Tows great as well--with my relatively light trailer the longest highway hills around here are no trouble at all.

WOW!! With fuel prices in Southern California, I am really glad I got a diesel now. I average around 16-18 MPG city and 20-22 MPG highway. Towing my 8500 lb trailer, it will drop to the 13-14 MPG range. Diesel around here is about $.15 / gallon cheaper than the cheap gas.

Has anyone seen a 2005 Super Duty with the V-10? I was wondering what kind of mileage the new trucks were getting with the 3-valve heads, 5-speed transmission, 4.10 gears and bigger wheels. So far, every '05 SD that I have seen is either a 5.4 or a diesel.

I was thinking I was luck I bought the 5.4. Diesel in Central New York is $.10 MORE that premium. But I guess that depends on how much your paying for the 87 octane. It's $1.99 here. Diesel is $2.39.

I'm getting about 10mpg with the 5.4. Around 7 with the plow on and in 4x4. I wish I'd gone with the V10. Next one will be.

Post 6.0L PSD vs. 6.8L Triton issues...

The guys I know locally with new diesel pickups only average 3 to 5 mpg better than my V10. One is a GMC Duramax and a couple more Fords. I don't remember any of them getting 20mpg and they brag alot so I'd hear about it if they did!

Also, today in my home area diesel is currently $2.25 and 87 octane is $1.77. That's a $0.48 higher price than 87 octane gasoline. Diesel is always than 87 in this area-usually about 10c more but it's gotten real bad this fall/winter. I haven't done the math to see if you're still ahead with the diesel for fuel mileage/expense but that big of a difference has to at least take a huge toll on the mileage expense advantage diesels offer.

diesel is more expensive on east coast vewrsus west coast as there are more furnaces that run on oil- same base stock as diesel fuel- ule notice once heating season is over- diesel is same as re unleaded or cheaper-pk

As for diesel...it's 1.99 a gallon here and gas is only 1.58 (only is a relevant term...wish it was a dollar like before!) I had a 5.4 in a 99 F-150 4x4 supercab...no comparison to the v-10 although my dang caddy with the northstar has 300HP and gets 27MPG..go figure and it will smoke the F250 and weighs about 4400 lbs. THere is definitely a lot more tweaking room on that v-10 as far as HP goes.

mileage

It sounds like everyone is experiencing the same mileage: (me) 12mpg unloaded and 8mpg towing a heavy load.

I just filled up today $1.69 for 87 unleaded, but $1.89 for diesel.

The wife's one ton '99 work van with the V10 gets around 20mpg on the highway, unfortunately, it's rarely on the highway and gets about 8mpg around town. When we bought it and brought it home(it's used), I drove 80 miles on four gallons of fuel, it only cost $10.00 to fill. It has tons of low end torque and has been an excellent van except for a coil on plug event.

I have an 02 350 with a 6.5" lift, 36" tires and the stock 3.73 gears. A banks power pack exhaust system and a K&N gen 2 air filter system. I average about 10 around town and got 14 last aug. towing my 01 FLHTCI out to Sturgis. Now, if I put my foot into it, mileage easily drops to around 6. Diesel is about 15 cents higher than premium here. Figure it out, with the extra cost of the Diesel engine, the 16 quarts of oil, or whatever it is, to change every time, the air pre filters, etc. etc. etc it would likely take about 150 to 200 thousand miles to break even with the better mileage. But there are a lot more ponies to be had for a lot less.?.?
