The new '05 6.8L 3V V10 is a beast. I test drove one last week and let me tell you, this new motor to me makes the Dodge Hemi feel like a 4 cylinder. As far as mpg you would be looking at averaging about 10 city and about 14 highway but that is depending on what options you opt for and how heavy your right foot is. This new motor is definitely "Built Ford Tough"!

It amazes me how different the price we pay for fuel (I am not calling anyone a lier, I see what you report when I travel). I filled up this morning, $1.799 for diesel and $1.799 for 87 nolead. That was at Wal-Mart. Most mom and pop stations gas is a little less and diesel a little more, 5c difference.

I can't speak to the milage or life with a v10. I have owned many gas trucks over the last 20 years. I get a grin on my face every time I start up my PSD.

charlie -

I'd give an arm to fill up the diesel rig we own for 1.79. Just went on a 700 mile round trip, and both at home here, and on the road, paid 2.49/gallon for diesel. Lowest I saw was 2.32. I'm in Oregon and have no idea what happened to the prices. A few weeks ago, diesel was 1.89, so I was shocked this trip, to say the least.

I'm looking for a second rig, and was thinking of gas. Didn't like the mpg I was seeing on this thread, compared to my new diesel; however, given the wild fluctuations in diesel fuel prices here over the last few months, I am again stumped on what to get.

Post Prices...

That's one reason I steered clear of the diesel. Gasoline is always cheaper than diesel in my home area. It's been especially bad the past 6 months or so.

Tonight at the cheapest couple stations around me diesel is $2.19 and 87 oct is $1.84, so that's a 35 cents premium. Back in December the difference was as much as 59 cents higher for a few weeks.

Usually during the summer months diesel is only 10 to 15 cents higher. When it gets up over costing 25 cents more than gas that cuts into the mileage benefit you get with a diesel. Up over 40 cents and there's not much of any advantage.

Seems like not long ago I was buying 87 octane for $1.09 & diesel was like $1.15. Aggravating, ain't it??

I am thinking of getting a reg cab 2wd f250 with a v10 when I get back to the States. From what I have read, the gas mileage won't be much worse than what I'm getting now. I do plan on putting a Whipple SC, complete exhaust system and a chip in though.

I was getting 9.7 no matter if I was pulling a medium load or not. I changed the plugs (had 130,000 miles on them) now I get 11.9 mpg on the highway, havent checked it in town yet but I was more than pleased with almost 12.
