Hey Guys I'm new to this forum. My first post ever was a few hours ago in the suspesion forum.
I have a 97' F-150 XLT Ext Cab 4wd with 5.4L Triton and auto Transmission.
I am always towing. I travel all over the country fishing tournements. Most of the time I am towing my 21'6" Cobra Coosa Bass Boat. If not that I am towing a trailer with 2 commercial mowers and weedeaters, lol.
My truck hardly ever sees pavement without a trailer. When its not on pavement I am driving around on my lease hunting.

I am wondering if there is a programer/chip/tuner whatever that i could get to improve my towing fuel economy.
If i drive 55-60mph I can sometimes get 10-11mpg but only if i dont use cruise control and i baby it up hills.
If i set the cruise on 80mph and just let it go i get around 7-8mpg.
I usually leave overdrive on unless i am in a really hilly area.

So any performance/economy improvements would be much appreciated.

Also without a trailer my truck seems like it doesnt have near the HP it used to. And my fuel economy is much lower than it used to be. And i have noticed its a little rougher at idle, and if its in park and i hold the RPMs around 1,200 it really starts shaking. But if i hook it to my Snap-0n vantage Scanner, it isnt throwing any codes.
If anyone has any suggestions there it would also be much appreciated.

Thanks
Cody.

I am running 87 and did download the tune on her but really not worth it in my eyes. I have alot of buddies that dont have it that are getting better mpg and trying to find out if I need to get ready of this one and get a new model or what.

Dont get me wrong I like the power but it could never hurt to get a few more miles a tank. Stang Out

I am soooo lost and confused. Somebody please help me out here. I have read thread after thread CS, CTS, X3, Edge, Gryphon, Troyer, Superchips yada yada yada... I can't figure out what I need and where to go.

I have a 2009 F150 FX4 5.4L w/ 27k miles and want to tune for better gas mileage and a little more pep. The only engine mods I have on my truck is a 40 series flowmaster muffler. So I am not sure if I need custom tunes or just canned. I use my truck all day everyday for work and always have about 300-600lbs in the bed for work. (I clean pools and drive a ton.)

Somebody please help me with choosing the right programmer for me.

Thanks!
Paul

I had no idea where to start and collected these #'s from past posts, Coming to a corner to stop the engine don't want to idle down, Likes to stay about 1200 RPM's and seems to keep pulling untill stopped for about 5-7 seconds. Should I just set it back to default and run it or am I way out of adjustment? Truck is a DD with towing duty 6000LB trailor twice a month.

Thanks

2004 F150 STX, 4.6L, auto, 4x4, 142,000 miles.

When in for oil change and routine maintenance with local shop mechanic, the truck first refused to start, then went in to safe idle mode. was taken to a large "reputable" Ford dealer in Northglenn for diagnosis/repair. It was determined that the throttle plate control had failed, and the return spring, etc was in bad shape. I gave the go ahead to replace the throttle body as that is the recommended repair.

The truck still did not run... codes showed failure of the Powertrain Control Module "the drivers are gone" and it was tested with the PCM from a different truck and it ran fine with that. Again, I gave the go ahead to order and replace (ouch) and after a week and a half of backorder and nearly $2000, it was installed and the truck ran.

It did run better than before failure, but not an impressive change. A week later I took in on a trip of about 800 miles, and it failed again. I was stranded.

It is now with the hometown Ford dealer. They have determined the PCM failed AGAIN after thorough testing, and expressed concern that it may not have been installed properly the previous time. I am now waiting to go back to get it.

In both cases, the only corresponding events were that the truck had been driven through some standing water, not very deep. Mechanic said that system should be waterproof enough for that situation.

Has anyone had experience with failing PCM? The cost of the second is covered under repair warranty, but the loss of work time and use of the truck (its over a month now) is getting old.

thnx
