Question Used 1997 Expy

What are some things to look for on a used Expy? Good and bad. I have a step-brother that is looking at a 1997 XLT Expy. 78,000 miles, 4.6 engine, the dealer wants like $12500. He said it looks very clean.

Thanks

I just turned in my 97 after 6 years. Best vehicle I ever owned (next would be the 88 Mustang). The price seems a little high. I picked up a 2000 EB 4x4 in December for just under $20k (list is around $26k) here in Dallas and it seems like I've seen the 97's going for under $10k.

Anyway, the things that I know of that you'll need to look for are:

Washer switch - There was a recall on these. When you push the washer fluid button nothing would happen unless you pushed the turn signal forward a bit. I went through a couple of freebies from Ford and finally got a good one. Then a dealer replaced it for no reason when I had it in for service and I got a bad one again.

Leaking seal around rear passenger doors - Mine had this problem and still does. You can notice it when driving at highway speeds and when you're trying to nap in the back seat. Seem to remember that others had the same problem.

Lug nuts - Recall here also if I remember correctly. Never had a problem but the dealer replaced them. Something about them coming loose.

Transmission - They replaced mine at 23k miles because of a shudder in the torque converter and erratic shifting. Don't think that this was a problem for any others though.

That's all I can think of. There were a couple of other small dollar parts under the hood that I replaced over the years but that was it. Hope the 2000 works as well for me.

Thumbs up Thanks

Thanks for the reply Skyhook8, I was leaning to believe that nobody had any serious problems. Here in MN the price for the Expy seems to be the going rate. Actually this one is better priced than most. Thanks again
