header wrap

Does the header wrap help out with preventing rust or just reducing engine compartment heat. I have heard it can void the warranty but if i am about to drop $1400 on some LT i dont what to replace them in a few years down the road. Gibson and other brands offer ceramic coated and what not but I want LT's. Should i just be confident in that the SS wont rust or should i purchace some wrap, or powder coat them.

thanks in advance
Kyle

I have Kooks long tube headers and had them ceramic coated.
I'm not worried about them rusting because there very good stainless headers.
I just did it for the cooling effect.
It' only cost me a little over 200 bucks to have it done locally.

Oh,,and I think the wrap is only good for reducing the temps. Wont help at all for rust!

Phil

DO NOT BUY HEADER WRAP IT WILL DESTROY YOUR HEADERS!!! Think of it this way. throw a bunch of towels in the dry then throw them in a pile on ur bed grap a towel in the middle it'll still be hott. They hold in the heat and wont let it escape. ive heard horror storys of people who have used it. they said the header wrap was all that was left of there headers they touched it with a screwdriver and it fell apart. i was thinking about this too but Jbrew found a website that showed it destroyed them. Get Stainless steal headers or some high temp paint...witht he paint they will still rust just not as fast. Good luck

i plan on going with dynatechs and figured i'd be good on rust but after reading melman's post of his problems i just want to take any extra precaution. I will look around to see if there is a shop that will powder coat or ceramic coat them. maybe i'm being a little too cautious but if they are going to be a pain in the ass to put on i only want to do it once
thanks again for the replies
