Need some advice on exhaust systems.

Hey guys I am new to this forum and ford trucks. I had a Dodge Ram with a flowmaster dual exhaust kit and loved it, now I have a 2003 F150 with the 5.4L, I put a flowmaster 40 series on it and it just doesnt sound like I want it to. My friend has the same truck as I do but a Magnaflow which sounds awesome. So I have been looking at exhaust kits on some websites, and I really like the harley davidson style and the lighting style exhaust (these are magnaflow kits also). So my question is will these kits work on my truck? Thanks for your advice guys it is greatly appreciated, and I am happy I made the switch to ford.

well hankl (steve) welcome to the site and im glad to hear you got rid of the dodge but im gonna save you some money here and tell you the best thing would to just buy a muffler and tips and get your exhaust guy to run the pipes and tips however you like them, yes lightning style looks good on these trucks, i had a 2002 with the lightning style, but i grew out of it and ran them back, that will save you alot of money instead of buying a catback or a harley style kit. im pretty sure more people would tell you the same thing, and yes if you get a harley kit for a 5.4 03 it will fit

Hey thanks f150fella08, my nickname is Hank that is why I am using it lol. Thanks for the advice it is greatly appreciated, now what is the difference between a magnaflow turbo muffler and there straight threw muffler. Which one would you prefer, which one would sound throatier on this motor also. One more question where or what site is a good place to buy a maggie and tips. Thanks again for the feedback.

i would go with the straight through muffler, darrenws6 had true dual 11" magnaflow straight through mufflers with a x pipe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hA4b28XFLH4 it sounds good, and he has all 4 factory cats on it, hes planning on cutting the rear cats which are the biggest cats off, so it will be louder and flow better, and the difference between the turbo and straight through are the turbo mufflers are chambered, kinda like a flowmaster, and the straight through, are well, straight through, if you want a throaty sound get the turbo, but the straight through is better for performance and sound, are you wanting to run true dual mufflers or a single in dual out or single in single out muffler?

as far as price, darrenws6 will be on here later more than likely and im sure he will tell you everything about the prices and where to order them from, id say just go from magnaflow or a warehouse, or ebay!

summits a good place to get cheap magnaflow parts. and they sound good if you delete the two rear cats. but first call around and find the cheapest place to install your system. the exhaust shops near me charge anywheres from $100-$300 just to bend two tail pipes. thats why i ended up doing my exhaust with prebent pipes going straight out the back for $8 a piece. and make sure you get stainless tips.

Hey thanks for the reply's guys it is greatly appreciated, I was thinking about running single inlet dual outlet with the texas style 45's out the back. I was talking to some guys here in town and they have said to run 3inch piping, what would be the advantages and disadvantages to this? And are the prebent tailpipes out of summit good? Thanks again for the advise.

i got my pipes through crw which is a exhaust parts shop just 20 miles from my house and my dads shop. i dont know the brand of the pipes but so far they dont have any rust and they are over a year old. you can ask your local exhaust shop or a good mechanic that does catback systems if they have connections with people that carry prebent pipes.

I would buy from Performance Curve or Performance Peddler for the cheapest prices with a decently quick ship, Summit Racing if you want a free summit hat, catalog, and dont mind the $9.75 ship charge.

yea a si/do will be louder and sound better, but the si/so is better for performance

or go dual si/so like I did, and swap the 4 cats for 2 hi-flows
