Flowmaster Outlaw On 4.6l 2004 - 3" Pipe Too Large?

I really like the sound and black tips of the Flowmaster Outlaw. Apparently there is also very little drone with this catback? All the pipes are 3" and the tips 4". However, '4.6 Punishers' sticky guide as well as a number of other threads state to stick with a maximum 2.5" pipe to not affect performance from scavenging.

So, should I avoid the Outlaw and opt for an American Thunder which utilises 2.5" outlets and 3" tips? If performance would be affected, why would Flowmaster put this catback together?

I ran 3" back from the joint behind cats to a 3" in dual 2.5" out Flowmaster on my 03 4.6. Only exception is the flow was appt to a 89 350 Chevy (forgive me Ford lords) when new ending with 3"x8"tips. Now at 197k with zero issues.
