DIY home-brew exhaust

I'm looking at fabricating my own "exhaust system" from parts.

A straight pipe from the factory y-pipe. Muffler. Then a dump tailpipe. The straight pipe will be cut to fit, so that the hanger will hold onto the tailpipe and support the weight of the muffler. That will allow for the exhaust to dump right about where the frame rail rises in front of the rear axle.

Wow, I almost replied last night but thought I'ld wait and see what else was said ....
.... nothing as it turns out?

Short of just cutting the stock pipe off in front of the muffler, I don't see how you could do it cheaper.

Gonna make some bored LEO happy one day.

Not going to be the best sound in the world, but it will be the cheapest.

Here is what I finally ended up with:

Patriot Exhaust #737-H3018
Smithy's Muffler
2-1/2'' Inlet/Outlet
2-1/2'' Core Diameter
30'' Case Length
3-1/2'' Case Diameter

JEGS Performance Products #555-30640
2.5'' ID Turndown

I picked these two because of ease of installation, and fitment. This will be really easy to bolt on, and I won't have to do any cutting or welding.

I'm not really interested in sound. What I'm mainly looking at, by bolting the muffler right up to the factory y-pipe, is to decrease flow restriction.

May I ask why you wanted to go this route in the first place? When I first got my truck, I paid $75 to have an exhaust shop cut out my stock muffler and weld in a 18" aluminum glass pack with the needed bent piping. And that price included all the parts and labor.

I had no interest in impressing anyone I passed on the street with sound. The idea was to simply increase exhaust flow. Without the network of pipes routing the exhaust back and over the axles, the exhaust gas is able to exit without restriction.
