I have a sucking sound coming from the top of my engine. It sounds like the intake gaskets could be starting to go bad. I have changed intake gaskets before on a 5.0 mustang and it wasnt that hard. How hard would it be to change them on my 5.4?. Shops around me want like $600 to change them and the setalership wants $800 plus F**K that! If they are not too hard I'd just rather change them myself!!

 

I would say it's easier on the modular engines than the old small block Ford. Access on a truck isn't that bad, but probably not as easy as a mustang. It's more of a reach and height issue. I would try torquing the bolts on the manifold first before changing gaskets. It would be hard for this style of gasket to leak. A loose intake is a possibility, but I'd look for a broken vacuum line or vacuum line that is not plugged into an open port.
