Stripped studs on factory 05 cast iron manifolds

I have an 05' F150 FX4 with the 5.4. I was removing the y pipe the other day and I guess someone put the nuts on the factory manifold collector studs too tight and stripped them. So when I go to remove the nut, it just spins. Well after alot of work, I got the nut off, but how do I replace the stud in the factory manifold? I tried to back it out by turning it, but it wouldn't budge. I really don't want to buy new exhaust right now. Help please.

Doug

Lots of penetrating lubricant and let it soak in... then you can either weld a nut on the stud and try using a socket to back it out, or try Vise-Grips. If it still won't break loose, then take a torch and heat the boss surrounding the threads on the collector until it just starts to glow, making sure not to heat the stud itself, then try to back it out. It will squeak a little when coming out, but don't worry. Hope this helps!

I was unsure if they were a press in, a screw in, a knurled press in, or what. I don't think I could get a cutting torch up in there to get them hot enough to pop out, without burning something else.

They are screw in, I used both vise grips and also two nuts backed up against each other if you still have any good thread left, and lots of penetrating oil.

By the way, DON'T use a cutting head on your torch, use a welding tip... it has a smaller flame, and there's no danger of accidentally hitting the oxygen valve and cutting into the manifold...
