Update: I called Magnaflow and confirmed Ford changed the hanger assembly somewhere during their 2009/2010 model manufacturing. So I guess the kit will work with some early 2009s. My kit was manufactured in 09/23/2009.

My options are to bend the bracket like "08XF4" suggested or return it for the single pipe kit. A partial concern for bending it myself was ruining the warranty on it. The guy says along as it isn't cut on it will not void the warranty.

Also, 08FX4, I got my kit from autoanything.com Mostly because it was the least expensive and I found a $30.00 coupon online as well.

So, I think I'll try to heat it up myself or take it to a shop. I need to call Magnaflow back and see if I can be reimbursed for what I have to put out for having the hanger bent!

This is true and having a custom job was an option for me.

I used to have a 97 F150 that I kept up until last month. I went to a local custom shop and had their product installed. It sounded VERY nice and was inexpensive. Problem is around year six, the pipes rusted out so bad the damn thing literally started falling apart. I went back and had more pipes put on.

In the last year those pipes started falling apart. It was pretty embarrassing one day to pull into our neighborhood with a pipe dragging on the ground! lol

So I decided to go Maganflow due to the stainless steel, the sound, and the warranty.

how much "tweaking" will be necessary? Something you can do in the driveway with a small propane torch and a pair of channel locks? Was it necessary to remove the heat shield by the spare to get it to fit? I'm hoping mine will be at the house when I get home from work, and I would to like to get it installed tonight...I just want to make sure I have all of the tools that I will need. Also, is this a one person job or will I need to have a buddy come over to help?

Sorry for all of the questions in your thread, but I figured it made more sense to post them here instead of starting another topic on the exact same thing

Langford, my tweaking will only consist of bending that bracket upwards to fit inside the existing hanger. Other than that, I didn't have to do any other tweaking. I'm HOPING a small propane torch and a pry bar will do the trick.

Yes, unfortunately the heat shield looked like it had to come off. Once I get everything on I'll try to put it back. I don't like taking things off like that. Mainly because it's there for a reason and I paid for it! lol

I did all the work myself except I needed my wife to help me get the tailpipe extension assembly into the bracket. I would advise lubing both the hanger and the bracket itself. Dish soap seemed to do the trick.

However, Langford, knowing your situation and knowing what I do now, I would call Magnaflow and ask if your kit will fit your truck before you unpack it. Ask specifically if there has been any problems.

How much did you pay? I have been looking for a magnaflow exhaust and I can't decide between the single side exit or double side exit.

Thanks for the advice 32CountStep, it always mAkes the job easier when you talk to someone who has already gone through the trial and error.

mrpositraction, I picked mine up from eBay. I got it from a seller named tobys auto parts (or something like that), I did the best offer thing and got it for $450 with free shipping. The buy it now price was around $520, so I saved a few bucks with the best offer.

Well, she is all bolted up and it sounds amazing! The dish soap in the rubber hangers was a life saver...I tried fighting one without dish soap, and it wasn't going to happen. After running into the kitchen and grabbing a bottle, life was much easier.

I did have to remove the heat shield from the spare tire to do the install...but it looks like there may be enough room to get it back up there...but I'm not too worried about it either way. No modifications were needed with the kit I bought (single pipe) other than the heat shield, all the hangers lined up perfectly and it all slid together easily. Total install time was around an hour and a half, but I did it all myself and had to do a few adjustments after it was all in place....plus my neighbor had the talkies, so I was out there BSing with him for about 15-20 minutes.

But I did notice one thing that I'm a little nervous about...seems to be a slight ticking sound coming from the passenger side (the truck almost sounds like a quiet diesel), it was getting dark so kinda hard to tell...but seems like the passenger valve cover area. I can't say that I noticed it before, but I don't remember ever walking around the truck while it was running with the hood open either. I only have 275 miles on the truck, so obviously it is under warranty....but it is not something I would expect from a brand new truck. I guess I need to take a run down to the dealership some time this week and have it put under the microscope.

Again, thanks again 32CountStep for the advice and letting me butt-into your thread with more questions.

Kyle

Glad it all worked out for you. Do you happen to have any pics or even a sound clip? How would you compare it to the stock exhaust in terms of sound? The stock exhaust note on these new trucks doesnt sound all that bad, but we all want it louder .

it was dark by the time I was finished with the install and cleanup, so I didn't get a chance to get any video or pictures. Tomorrow, I'm going to have my girlfriend give me a hand with a video or two. I plan on getting one with the truck sitting at idle, then a quick rev or two, then a flyby down the road at WOT...should give a good representation of the sound. To say the least, I'm happy with the new setup...not too noisy in the cab while just cruising around, but you can definitely hear it when you stomp on the go-pedal. Like I said, I will get the video up on youtube tomorrow and then post it up here.

Awesome! I'm glad you got that fixed up with no problems. Yah, those hangers are fun. Magnaflow should think about redoing that design...or putting a bottle of KY jelly in each kit! lol

That was an option Mangaflow made me. Only problem is I'd have to take all of what is on the truck now off. I think I'll just bend that hanger and be done with it.

Then I can concentrate on my next mod which may be to upgrade the sound system.
