'09 aftermarket exhaust... Flowmaster vs Pypes

I was thinking of going with a flowmaster exhaust on my new truck but the salesman that sold me the truck suggested that I look into going with Pypes Exhaust, (which is what many of the mustangs that are sold here in Texas have) it has a rich deep mellow tone that I'm looking for vs the raspy, ear piercing "rack off" type exhausts. If anyone out there has heard the difference in the two on an F-150 please feel free to chime in.

I would strongly consider Magnaflow.

ok, I'm willing to consider anything, I guess I can go to youtube and probably hear just about any exhaust ever built, with just a slight deviation from the real sound vs laptop speakers..... Thanks Marc

I think Flowmaster will sound better than the Pypes kits. Pypes is usually loud and raspy as SLPs. The Flowmaster has a real deep and aggressive tone atleast.

thanks Darren, I just went to the Magnaflow website, they are almost twice the price of a flowmaster kit,I'm not really in any hurry to get this done, I really want to research it since I havnt had a gas engine since 2001 when the suoercrew first came out, my last 2 trucks have been diesels and I ran a 4.5"downtube and a 5"straight pipe to a 6" tip on both of those, my wife is lovin the quiet truck right now.....thanks for your suggestion

I'd say go with the flowmaster.

I know you was talking about "price of the kit" but it would be a good bit cheaper if you just get the muffler, pipe and tips and let an exhaust shop weld it in, rather than buying a kit.

The higher cost of the Magnaflow systems is due to they are completely stainless steel which Flowmaster is not, and has low tolerances to loud volume and interior noise. You can buy the Magnaflow kits $200 or so cheaper on summit racing, and performance peddler though.

The Flowmaster 50 series offers a nice low tone that should keep the wife happy, and still remain noisey outside.

Avoid performance peddler, they will not honor valid warrenty claims. My MagnaFlow Cat-back on my '06 Screw seperated at the hanger weld leaving a gaping hole. Evidently I'm not the only one that's had this problem with them as their BBB profile gives them a rating of F: http://www.bbb.org/eastern-michigan/...y-mi-54002083/

For that kind of problem its best to contact Magnaflow directly, performance peddler is meerly the product distributor and has nothing to do with warranty claims.

I did. Magnaflow cannot and will not deal directly with the public, they have distributors for that. They were nice enough to give me some contacts at Performance Peddler, and the whole process is outlines on PPs website, they just won't honor it. I can't even buy the part I need directly from Magnaflow...must go through a middle man.

hmm, well thats a bummer. I would probably have a shop or a skilled welder friend cover the hole with a piece of stainless sheet metal.

I had a Magnaflow kit on mine that did the same, I just figured it was because I had modified it and had the weight of a glasspack muffler behind it with nothing els to help hold it up. Nothing is good enough for me, I always have to try to make it better and end up braking it.

We all have a little Tim Taylor inside us.

:lol What a great show.

Anyways, to the OP, I have had a Magnaflow 14" si/do for just under two months, and I love it. It has gotten deeper and a bit louder. It's not obnoxious and has helped my economy a bit. It can be heard in the cab no doubt, but not enough to bother you and not at all like a flowmaster. IMO, my truck sounds very tasteful.
