Yeah I know I ask alot of questions, but I'm new to the truck scene. The options I have are K&N, AIRAID, and Volant. These are my only options because I am getting at cost through a dealer. There is no listing for an F150 under AFE, which I've heard good things about. I'm thinking about going with K&N. Any input is appreciated, thanks.
Although I only have a 2v 5.4L, the Volant worked better for me than my old Airaid since it is a true CAI utilizing the fendor opening instead of the open element style. Both will do good on highway cruising but city driving can get the engine compartment temps up pretty high.

All kits are usually the same, the main difference being open filter, and enclosed. An enclosed filter is the best for performance, open filter such as K&Ns doesn't draw in cold air as well as an enclosed kit does, it just sucks down most of whats in the engine bay and minimal directional flow cold air.
either way you cant forget to get a custom tuner for it(you'll run lean without it). the gotts intake IMO would be the bast bang for the buck.
and has an enclosed filter been dyno proven to give better results? i made a box for my K&N out of aluminum sheet metal(just some scrap we had) and i didnt notice a single difference(hp, torque, mpg, throttle response, etc) with it. i had it so tha it drew air in through the stock location(little duct under the hood up front). i may not have done it properly but i just didnt notice any difference which is why i ask.
Your pricing is off. It cost me $14.95 to do my Gotts intake!!!
However, with that said, I installed my Edge Evo programmer and one of the things that I monitor is my air intake temp. Depending on the day (cloudy or not), its between 90 and 115 degrees, or about 30 degrees warmer than it is outside. I went through the fender like the article says, but its still warmer than I expected.
Where would this meassurement be taken that the PCM would pick it up? The MAF? Did I do something wrong, or does this sound about right?

those temps seem about right to me. it should be a little lower than outside temp is. if it was higher than outside temp i would be worried about something being wrong.
Ok, way confused. My sensor is saying it is 90, when it is about 65 outside. Your saying this is ok, or no?

oh sorry i misread your post. i was thinking "30*cooler". that doesnt look right to me. i would see what others with the gotts mod think. i dont have one to really tell you the benefits of the gotts intake but it does help from what i understand. but i would think it would be cooler than that.
Thanks, yeah I didnt think it looked right either. I did notice a small difference in power (good) and gas milage (good) since I did it, but it just seems too hot. If I didnt do anything wrong, I must say it is the best $14.95 I spent.

Well the inside of the engine bay is quite warm, and that heats up the intake tube. Also, the fender well is going to be warmer than the outside temp. Both of these are contributing to your air temps. The only way to get air that colder than outside temps is to wrap the air element in ice.
