I'm ready to put a new exhaust on my '06 5.4L screw. I stopped into a shop recommended by a customer of mine today to get a price on simply replacing the muffler with a si/so magnaflow. By the time I left, he had me convinced I should go with a cat back di/do with 2 Flo-Pro mufflers and an in-house fabricated x-pipe between them. I'm thinking of doing straight cut round tips out the back to reduce noise in the cab. He offered to do the whole thing for $500. He said everybody and their grandmother does it that way, but he'd do whatever I want. He recommended to tips out the side in front of the rear wheel well... to be unique.
I'm not looking to set off car alarms or anything... I would just like a nice, clean, rumble to turn a few heads. My truck is an advertising investment for my wrap company. I want it to be noticeable, but not annoying to people... or to me while driving. I definitely don't want any drone on the highway.
I guess part of the question is... regardless of the muffler is the performance gain of true duals worth the extra couple hundred bucks. I tend to think it is.
I have a DI/DO FloPro setup on my 2001 5.4L. I went to this after having a generic Magnaflow DI/DO setup that rusted out a year and a half ago. The shop who installed mine did not put in an X-pipe nor an H-pipe. I noticed a distinct drop in low rpm torque when moving to the FloPro mufflers. I'm wondering if the X-pipe would help me? My opinion would be to stay with a SI/DO setup as I have been disappointed in my FloPro DI/DO.
2 mufflers = SI/SO mufflers, DI/DO = 1 muffler with two inlets, two outlets. So you technically mean 2 SI/SOs. Flo-Pros are decent mufflers, they're just like Magnaflows.
The muffler shop told me the same thing... the Flo-Pro is virtually identical to the Magnaflow. However, he said there's like a $30 difference per muffler. I'm thinking maybe I should just go Magnaflow for that minimal difference.

Magnaflow also offers lifetime warranties for registered mufflers and is t-409 grade stainless, and t-304 polished if you pay another $30 per muffler.
I bought a 2009 f150 with a 5.4. Very nice, however it felt like it had quite a bit more power hiding in there. I had a magnflow exhaust and afe performance intake installed at the dealership. What a difference! Sounds awesome, and much more power.
