Here's a pic of my factory box - I don't have one with the mod -
Where did you get the housing for the MAF sensor? I recently did this mod, but I would like to take it further to what you have hear, except maybe take it through the fender well still. Did you just use a hole saw and eye the hole for the rubber grommet on your IAT?

that housing is inside your factory air box, the coupler is one from home depot, feel free to PM jbrew he'll give you more specifics

Yeh - I work in a wholesale plumbing/hvac supply house, so all the parts are free for me to get.
I grabbed the 3" CI/PL Fernco and ABS tubing right off the shelfs, and already got the 2 sections of 3(4?)" pipe aswell the 3(4?) LT 1/4 bend. Wondering if this would take the intake even further for more gains? I'll PM JBrew for specifics on the rest though... like how the rubber coupling that connects from the TB to the intake tubing(holds the IAT and recirc line) is connected to the pipe.. glued?
put my gotts mod in today and felt imediate difference
at 70 i can pass with ease, before i would have to hit the floor board with the accelerator and it would rev really high then kick in

Just finished this mod, too! It was a pita to get the pipe to fit in the fender. I used a cutoff wheel to shape it. Then I "persuaded" it in with a rubber mallet. Took ~ an hour, start to finish. Great mod!
i just did this mod with the 3" pipe and a k&n drop in on my 06 with the 4.6. after i finished the mod i took her for a spin and instantly noticed an increase in throttle response especially when passing!!! i give this mod 2 thumbs up.

It's alot of reading, here in the posts. I was looking for the pro's and con's of this Mod, and saw all pro's. So, I took the whole air intake apart and went for it. (after spending hours of reading through the night, bright eyed and bushy-tailed the next morning) Anyway, I removed the smaller inner tube from the larger right angled plastic tube just before the throttle plate. This inner tube comes out without cutting. Yes, the large rubber sleeve has to come off first; patience, patience or you are going to rip it like I did. This inner tube appears to have something to do with muffling intake noise or smoothing intake pulses. But, how is this for a concept, insulating against the heat from the radiator fan. So I placed a piece of 12"x12" plexi under it to protect against the heat. The intake snorkel that goes into the fender was removed and replaced with a piece of 3" diameter rubber sewer pipe connector from the local hardware store. It sits about 1" from the fender. I am not overly worried about touching the fender. I am sure that the majority of the air will pull from there due to its close proximity. This area will receive cool air from the wind driven under the headlight and over the bumper. The intake noise sounds alot like the 4 Bbl's on a carburetor and has awsome, awsome pull on WOT. I took the kids for a test drive and they said they loved it. Sounds like a race car. (DCF'ers, I never exceeded posted speed limits or performed maneuvers likely to cause harm to us or others with the kids) I am preparing the Expedition for camper towing. I have the Super Chips installed and run 91-93 Octane. I have 3 inch exhaust and performance muffler from the CAT back. Noticeable power gains and increased fuel mileage. Remember, increased fuel mileage means no WOT.
