Pre-Cats ?

My 1997 4.6 has four cats like ford has been doing. What is up with the little pre-cats though? Are they like resonators or do they actually do something for emissions. My SISO flowmaster 40 isnt loud enough. Dont have money for duals and i want to work with what i have. Has anyone messed with the pre-cats? I dont want to touch the big *** cats but i really dont see a point to the little ones if there are two big ones. Also would straight pipes sound crappy? If anyone has done anything like this could you please let me know? Thanks

Randy

I have long tube headers, 2 high flow cats, and an X pipe with spintech mufflers turned down, about $1500 in it, but from the headers back, only about $250.

Hey thanks for the reply. First i want to comment on your truck i think its bad *** man. and 250 isnt that bad for everything that you have after the headers. How much did your high flow cats cost and where did you get them? Ive read that they make a huge difference but never really looked into them. I always thought they were really expensive.

I got my cats off ebay, a little over 100 shipped for both, and i did the rest my self. It will burn cleaner, and run better with high flows.

does anyone know if the local muffler shop would weld on highflow cats? I live in Michigan and I know they won't touch it if you want to take them off all together. The price for the cats at troyer is that just for one? So I would have to order two of them or is it a pair?

most muffler shops will not touch the cats unless they need replaced due to corrosion or something like that and will only install stock OEM cats for vehicles & not aftermarket parts, if you find a place thats out where they dont have emissions you might get lucky & they might install the highflows for you

I know a guy at a local shop that does that kind of stuff. You just have to look around.
