Question 40 Series Flowmaster for $450 Installed

I just went to a local muffler shop that one of my friends receommened. The guy gave me a price of $450 on my 98 Flareside. Is this a fairly good price? I never had this done to any vehicles I owned, so I really do not know how much it should cost. Also, the shop guy said maybe I should go w/ the 50 series, cause the 40's may be to loud. All he is gonna do is "Y" my muffler out to duals tips.

Also, would 4 inch tips change the sound that much over the 3.5's. I know the bigger tip you go, the depper the sound is, but I was just wondering, if it would be a huge difference.

One more thing.......Is the above set-up a good way to go, in terms of sound and performance. Also, can't decide on straight exit or angle out the back. Is their any difference in the sound w/ the different exits???? I'm probably gonna go next Saturday to get this done . Any in-put before then would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Some people have paid under $200 for Flowmaster DOR. For $450, I'd get an engineered cat-back, like Magnaflow. $450 for Flowmaster is a ripoff.

I may have been mistaken. He may have mentioned something about hookers

I had the Flowmaster 40 installed on my truck last week. I have 3' tips, I like the looks and sound. Not loud, very mellow. Cost was $225 plus tax and they did a very clean, nice job. I had a quote from another shop of $270 for the same set-up.

Are these prices including the Flowmaster's. This guy stocks the Flowmasters. The price of $450 included the exhaust not just to install them. Reason I had second thoughts about this is that most shops around me can do the install for around $200 to $300, but I have to provide the exhausts. The first guy I went to quoted me the $450 price, but he provided the exhaust.

I'm I still getting ripped-off by the first guy?

My $225 included Flowmater 40, pipes, tips, the works. Everything but sales tax. I could have paid a little more for Magnaflo or Flo Pro. But even those complete were less than $300, plus tax. I think you are getting ripped off.

The highest price i was quoted was $400 for true duals. I shopped by phone till I found what I wanted at the best price. They also guarantee the installation for as long as I have the truck. If a hanger or a weld breaks, they will fix it.

Thanks Bluejay...... That's kinda what I figured, but I just wanted to double-check. I heard this guy does do great work, but I really don't care if he's gonna charge me that much.

Thanks again!!!!!

Paid $80.00 for the Super 40 Muffler, and $50.00 for installation which included new pipes from the cat to muffler, and out the muffler dumped downward before the axle.

Sound Clip
That was taken the same day as the install so it didnt have any build up yet. Now its not as hollow but more deep.

Just got the 40 series installed on Saturday. Ended up going to a different shop. The guy did an awesome job and only charged me $280 for everything out the door.

Love the sound of that flowmaster......I went w/ 3.5 inch stainless tips w/ angle side exit. I couldn't be any happpier w. this set-up

I got the 40 Series. Sound is good....nice low rumble at take -off and not much cab noise on the highway. i hear that these will continue to sound better as I stach up the miles. I just got them last Saturday. When I started the truck for my wife, her only response was A**Hole, that's to loud. That was my confirmation that it was all good. I have not heard the Super 40's. Are they supposed to be louder?

Muffler shop guys want to rip you off as much as they can I went to a muffler shop here in Nashville that does flowmaster he said something to a little over 400 I told him he was crazy and that some guys on a website said they had the work done for under 300 I'm thinking about printing this thread out and showing him and that I wont pay more than 225 like Bluejay did on his if he can't do it I find a shop that will and if I can't I live with the stock exhuast like I have been for the past 5 years.
