Motor Trend Article: Excursion vs Hummer vs........

Who saw this article? In their specs it said the new Yukon XL is over 200 in. long and the Excursion is like 190inches. I believe this is a typo. What would everyone else buy? The Excursion with a PSD is my choice.

Well, if the choice is between a Hummer and an Excursion, than I gotta go with the Hummer. Hey, don't get me wrong, the Excursion is very nice, but nothin beats a hummer, off-road atleast.

Yeah, and that's fine, but the Hummer is in a different class than the Excursion. Besides, nobody buys the Hummer to pull with. People with money to spend buy em. Now the Excursion is for a family type vehicle, and is a very good one, especially with the Powerstroke. But there are big differences between the Hummer and the Excursion. NOTHING beats a Hummer off-road, and that's really all the Hummers good for, and that's what I want one for. Plus, they look good and tough.

That's right Fast, but what's really cool is that they can forge up to 5 feet of water. Now that's pretty cool. There's so many goodies on em, you can't name em all. Ok, just one of many is the self inflating tire system, you blow a tire, no problem. You can go up to 40 miles at 45 mph, with all four flat. Yep, if I had 75K to spend, I know what I'd get.

I agree with 4D THNDR. As for a bad *** vehicle though gimme that $70,000 odd and I'll produce the biggest baddest built up 4x4 around. Maybe a F350 Super Duty Crew Cab PSD w/Banks Powerpack (now that's a real diesel), 6 speed, 12 inch springs, 44 inch boggers, lock the pumpkins and middle, and atleast 2 winches. It still might not cover all the offroad conditions a Hummer would but that's ok there's still enough money left over for a boat to go anywhere the truck won't. Maybe if the Hummer had the PSD or Cummins and was available in the military edition it would be worth the money.

Sort of missed something here, as I don't really see a valid comparison between the Excursion and a Hummer.
However, one of the best vehicles I have owned in the past 20 years was a 1988 Suburban with the 6.2 litre diesel. I put just on 100K on it with absolutely no costs beyond normal servicing. The only mod I made was to replace the stock mufflers with 30" glass packs and was it ever noisy!
I had the chance to drive a new Excursion a few blocks courtesy of my local dealer from whom I have leased a lot of vehicles and I was really very impressed.

To be quite honest, I would seriously consider buying/leasing one with the PSD motor if I did not have so many leases that have two years to run.

As to the Hummer, I have several customers that have them (one has 5) and a couple that have the stretched limo versions. Practicality is not their strong suit, and none, repeat none, use them off road. It is a status symbol for them period end of story.
On the other hand, unlike some others here, I had great luck with the normally aspirated diesel (no experience with the turbo version) and I thought it was a really great motor.

There is a guy here in town who has a 87 F-350 crewCab single rear wheels who has a 6.9l/4-speed with a 30" glasspack. I had to hear it for myself one time he passed me with my window rolled down and that ***-forsaken truck was the loudest glasspack Ive ever heard! JEEEEZ!

Don't confuse the military version of the Hummer with the civilian version.

I saw an excursion with a window tag that totaled over $42,000.

I could have parked my short bed in the back it looked so long.
