Help vin number

I am about to buy a 2000 excursion with a v10 and i saw on here awhile back somebody posted about the letters meaning which engine was in a 2000 either an "u or a y" if i remeber correctly but i forget, but for the life of me i can not find it.if somebody knows this or has the link back could you please help.

What info do you need exactly???

Somebody had posted that if your vin has one letter it was a left over 99 engine but if it had another it was the 310hp 2000 motor? I think it refered to the 5th letter in the vin which on my new truck is a U. Please be nice and tell me that i have the 310

Well as far as I know the 8th character of the VIN is the engine identifier go to Fordfleetvehicles.com and type your VIN and it should say there where you can check your VIN.
