Remove armrest stop pin from captain's chair

I have a 6.0L Eddie Bauer with captain's chairs that have armrests. I wanted the split bench, but it was not available. I picked up a center seat and I am now ready to install. I removed the armrests from my captain chairs, but the seat has a 3/4" rod that extends from the seat (a "stop" for the armrest) that will interfere with the center seat armrest/seatback. How can that rod be removed? I can just cut it off, but I wanted to see if that is the only way.
If anyone knows how to do this, I would certainly appreciate your help.
