Purchased Excursion

2000 Limited V10 4x4. 35K miles White/Gray ... My only complaint is that it has a Gibson exhaust that has an AWFULL drone ...

Any suggestions on a quieter Exhaust? I have FlowMaster 70 series, which are probably the quietest FlowMaster, on my SuperCrew which I think would be too loud for the Excursion.

Thanks ...

Congratulations!

Good luck on finding exhaust to sound right with the v10. Thee is supposedly one that does sound decent, but I can't remember what it is. I think I have a link to a sound clip and I'll post that if I find it.

Most make it sound like an overgrown ricer....

On the Exhaust ... I found out that it was a Gibson exhaust the original owner had installed. Gibson is one of the quieter after market exhaust systems for the V-10. The noise turned out to be the exhaust pipe was hitting (buzzing) the Gas Tank. Cost $5 for them to move it out and weld in two spots....

Life is good.

That's good news!!!! I actually had to reposiiton mine once and tighten it up.

FYI, I just driove a late '03 Ex (has the '04 changes) with the 6.0 PSD and all the goodies. Pretty sweet. I'm still having a hard time thinking about giving up the Expy though........

Likewise-

I just found out I have a little one coming, and my Expedition, while great with 5-passengers, looses it's effectiveness drastically when the 3rd row is deployed, from a comfort stand point, and when it comes to luggage, forgetaboutit. The average PT cruiser probably has more room behind the backseat.

So, I'm tempted to jump-ship and pick up a 5.3L Chevy Suburban 4x2; or the Excursion. I don't know if the 5.4L is too little engine for the Excursy, or not. I definitely DON'T want the V-10 or the diesel. (V-10 = gas, Diesel = Ranch-Hand) neither of which I want to spend more on, or look like.

I too am having trouble parting ways with the Expedition.

We have the 5.4 in the Expy and we average 11.5 mpg around town. I also have the 5.4 in the SuperCrew and average around the same. The Excursion so far is registering 11.3 mpg. I have not had to purchased gas yet, so I figure I will not be able to calculate a more accurate rating for a couple months.

The 5.4 seems to be strong engines in the Expy and SCrew. I have never driven an Excursion with the 5.4 and cannot give you a comparison. I owned an '88 Bronco with the 302 and from that point on, I said I will never own the smallest engine available in any auto. I am on the north side of Atlanta and the hills were killer on that 302. I can say that the V-10 is one of the smoothest engines I have ever driven and I have no complaints with the acceleration of this beast.

Like you the PSD was not an option for me because 90% of our trips are less than 10 miles and 50% of those are probably <5.
