Got Excursion? Got Tow?

Ok, I couldn't get much more clever right now, I'm tired!

I'm looking for any lurking Excursion owners that tow and get some feedback. I'm now in the market to move to FamilyRide II and it's either a big truck (Super Duty or big Dodge) or an Excursion and any way I go, I'm going to the dark side; I don't want no skink'n big truck with spark plugs

My delima is that my wife prefers the roomy interior and functionality of the Excursion but I'm really not thrilled about going to a 2003-2004 6.0 PSD Excursion when I'll be stuck with little to no options when it comes to aftermarket power improvement. I doubt I'll get lucky and find a 7.3 sitting on a lot equiped exactly how I want it (although I'm looking into ordering with my fingers crossed). Next issue is 11k towing capacity. Planning for the next boat, I'd like to know I had a factory rating of at least 12-13k. What are you towing and how much weight and how does it do (preferably heavy loads). ALso what modifications have you done, if any.

Oh, on the upside, the Excursion will fit in my garage. Even a SWB Super Duty will not.

The other option is a truck (I'd kind of prefer it but I agree the interior room in the Excursion is nice). SUper Duty has more interior room and just flat looks like a HD truck! The Dodge has less room, but big towing, power and BIG aftermarket power for less $$!!! I'd prefer to go on to a 1 ton DRW, 4x4 if we do a Dodge. That's about the only one that I think can compete with the Super Duty in looks (looks are important aren't they?) I"ve already ran a White 4x4 3500 Laramie DRW past her and she only said she didn't like dually's so it's still an option.

So, all that just to find out what people are towing and how they do. The next boat we're considering is trailerable with permit but will easily push 11-12k. I also want to consider TT's and possibly even a 5'r which could be a BIG boat trailer or TT.

That's all down the road right now but the next truck is a long term keeper.

Ya, I've tried to put some life into this one a few times over the last 1-2 years and it just won't stay going.

I'm starting to warm up to the idea of ordering a 2004 now that I'm finding some aftermarket support. Not much but it's starting. Bully Dog actually has some stuff. I've got a question in to Banks to see if they can talk about what they may or may not be planning for it.

Mine eyes have seen the light!! Thanks again RickyG. I've discovered life on the dark side and there is some chit out for the 6.0!! I've been trying to talk myself out of spending the money and just hanging on to the Expy, but I'm thinking I need to order that '04 Excursion quick!! Too many things "are" out there to make'm go fast and pull big!

I've seen 6.0s with a Bully Dog module on them with a 3 position switch. 1. Stock 2. +60 hp 3.+115 hp. I think that would be ideal for towing since most aftermarket devices don't want you towing at max power levels. Before you know it there will be plenty of aftermarket support, as it is quite a big market. Also I recently read an article in some magazine that tested chevy vs dodge vs Ford diesels. The 6.0L out pulled both chevy and dodge empty, but when loaded to capacity the Ford was twice as far ahead. It said the Ford could go up a hill loaded at 85 mph while the dodge and chevy with the same load could only manage 70 mph.
