BAD RUBBER BOOT ON PVC VALVE SUMMARY BELOW.
My engine light came on at 72000 miles and the code I got was 0174 engine lean on bank 2. The motor was running really rough so I took it to PEPBOYS to have them to a complete check on the truck. Their oppinion was that 2 coil over caps were bad and 2 O2 sensors were bad. I had these changed but the truck was still running rough. It turned out that the real problem was the rubber boot at the back of the intake manifold for the PVC valve had worn out. The design of this boot is really bad so I replaced it with a boot from a standard distributor cap, this is better designed and will stand up to the heat a lot better

Glad it worked out for you. I had the same problem awhile back and through the help of this board found that to be my problem also. Curious as to what rubber boot did you use from a standard distributor cap? On mine, the opening going into the engine was larger than the one connecting to my PCV hose going to the valve cover, so had to purchase the whole hose and boot for $16.00 from Ford. It aslo included a new PCV vlve though.
I just used a boot from a standard distributor, in fact I went to AutoZone and one of the techs there fixed it up for me free of charge. As I am sure you know, the distributor cap opening is larger than the spark plug wire which work out perfect as a replacement. It was a little tight on the pvc hose side but I was still able to rotate the boot around as needed to align the 90% in the proper location.
