Unhappy basic repairs

After having my 1997 ford f150 xlt for awhile, i know it is probably in need of some basic repairs not done at your local service station. (ex: regular oil changes), When is the proper time to replace old parts and things to make sure the truck is up to par. Example: fuel filters, ail filters, plugs, wires, etc, etc,. When should they be replaced and/or upgraded. I just finished purchasing my truck, so now is the time to make sure the decision to purchase is one that i wont regret!! heh heh. Please HELP!

Basic tune up

Well it depends on your milage. With the spark plugs it is not but every 100,000 miles. the best way to find out when you should change things is look in the owners manuel. I really suggest going to the local parts store and pick up a Haynes or Chiltons book for your truck. This will also allow you to know how to do the work. As for parts
Plugs= Motocraft double platnum
air filter= K&N
all other filters = Wix
Fluids = Mobil One or Redline
All other parts GO WITH FACTORY. do not buy after market parts

if you just bought a '97 i would consider replacing just about everything unless you know for sure it's new.

serpantine belt
upper and lower rad hoses
plugs,wires,coil packs
o2 sensors
fuel filter
pcv valve
any brttle rubber (Heater hoses, vacum hoses etc)
service difs, tranny, and transfer case (if 4x4)
r & r egr system
intake clean service
flush rad

oh and while you are at it add some windshield washer fluid!!

have fun!
