401. Replace the dpfe sensor. The silver sensor to the driver's side of the throttle body if it is a 4.6or 5.4. Sensor has two large black hoses from the bottom to the egr tube assy. If you have a 4.2, the sensor is to the right of the throttlebody assy in front of the valve cover. The 302 code. Where did the plug wire come from? Did you check the plug for cracks? Did you check to see if the injector is firing? You can check this with a screwdriver placed on the injector with the engine running and the handle to your ear. Compare to other injectors. If it is clicking, it is working. Need to know what engine you have before I can offer more help/tests.

As for code 302, I would check to make sure the plug wire is connected all the way. Or even take the plug out of the cylinder and see if it's sparking. If so, check the injector like mentioned above.

Speed Demon 1965 shoot me an email sometime,, I would like to ask a few questions about your 5.0 T-5 swap.

A P0401 , I am guessing you have a 4.6, is most likely clogged egr ports on the intake elbow , or a dpfe sensor..

Have also seen it caused by rotten vac lines behind the battery. Thats what got me.

Click on the search button and put in P0401 and you will get a bunch of threads on this problem..

Don't mess with the valve. Have worked at the dealer for nine years and haven't replaced one in six. It is mostly the dpfe sensor, or the ports in the intake behind the throttlebody are clogged with carbon and need cleaning.

I also have a 97 4.6l with a 401 code. Thanks to advice from this site, I checked the EGR ports. They were totally clogged. I cleaned them out and the problem disappeared.
