Question Stalling Taurus?

Hey guys, my girlfriend's mom got a used later model (97?) Taurus, I believe with the V6, about a year ago. Well, it has just started stalling when she slows down, like for a stop light / sign, or when pulling into the driveway. She said she puts it in neutral and it starts right up again with no problems. Any idea what's going on before she drops the bucks on it? She's 10 hours away or I'd check it out myself. Thanks!!!

I had a Dodge Ram (I know, no wise cracks please!) that did this--turned out to be a bad O2 sensor, but it should be throwing a code. Is the CEL on? Advance or Auto Zone will check the code for free.

?My $.02,

One cheap/easy thing to try is fuel injector cleaner. She may also have a bad tank of gas.

My wife used to have a 96 Taurus that had simliar problems - but it only did it after it had been run awhile. The engine died several times on me until I changed the plugs. After that, it only did it one more time after I was in stop and go traffic leaving the US Grand Prix. Before I got the chance to mess with it anymore, a deer jumped out in front of me while I was cruising about 80 mph down the interstate.

needless to say I didn't have to worry about how the engine ran after that...

Fuel Injectors

My wife's 98 Taurus had the same problem. Put in 6 oz. of Amsoil Performance Improver. Problem solved.

Here is the link. Amsoil Performance Improver

Clean and lube IAC. Check EGR valve for deposits and sticking part way open. normal tune up stuff after that.
