1997 f150 probs

My battery died a few times as i was goin down th road so i took th alternator & got it checked & it was bad so had my buddy put a new 1 on 4 me.

Prob solved right??? Nope!!! My buddy said tht on a couple f150/expidition's tht he had, th fusible link's went bad.

My question is...wher is th fusible link located???

If your battery goes too low on charge, there is not enough power in the battery to fire the ignition. Some alternators won't charge a near dead battery. Did you charge your battery with a battery charger after you put the new alternator on?

SHO is correct that there are no fuseable links; they are mega fuses in the 97/98.

The mega fuses serve the same purpose as the fuseable links in the newer model F150s ; which I think is what you are looking for.
- Highlighting that there are no fuseable links should have been the subtitle, not the whole post.

In addition to checking the mega fuses, check the alternator field fuse and next check the connector on the alternator.
- The older the connectors the higher the chance that they are pulling apart in the connector hood.

Here is a thread on the topic of the wires / connectors.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...nator-why.html

Here are the pictures from the thread.

give those a check and let us know what happens.

FWIW, the 97-98 Expys also are without fusible links, same as the 97-98 pickups. Both years used mega-fuses. Looking at the factory diagrams, the fusible links came back for both versions for the 99 model year. I didn't check from 2000 on since that set of documentation is on a different PC that I do not have access to this morning. I also did not check the leftover 96 body style that were sold as 97s.

It is imperative that any anecdotal "evidence" that you find be pertinent to your specific year of vehicle, otherwise, it's just noise that will confuse you and waste your time (and ours).

1997 f-150 probs

Okay I'll say it all in one shot this time... My battery died two or three times as I was going down the road so I took the alternator off and had it checked. It was bad so I had my friend put a new one on for me. I thought that would solve the problem but it didn't.

the other day I had to honk and a guy in front of me because he would not take off after the stop light turned green. I honked the horn and then honked it again. When I honked it the second time it kept honking. I then hit the horn with the side of my fist and it quit honking.

that night at about midnight or shortly thereafter... My neighbor said that it started blaring and I had taken my sleeping pills so I didn't hear a thing... I was out of it... And he said after several minutes it quit honking.

the next day I noticed that the cruise control didn't work and the horn didn't work either. And I noticed that the battery would not hold a charge. After I drove for maybe 10 minutes it would die.

I have checked all the fuses including the ones under the hood.

Somebody somewhere on this forum or another said that it would have something to do with something called a mega fuse. I haven't been able to find anything that looks like a fuse other than what's in the junction box on the driver's side.

any input is greatly appreciated. Thank you very very much in advance
