Possible turn signal shorting out Low-Beams?

Hi Guys,

Long time lurker first time poster here.

I'll get to the point and make it easy, hopefully.

Is it possible that the turn-signals are shorting out the low-beams headlights?

There has been no changes or installs to the truck. I have a 2004 F-150 FX4 extended cab.

So, this last week with the low-beams on, if I use the left or right turn-signal the low-beams completely turn off. When I turn off or stop the turn-signal, the low beams turn back on.

But the strange part, is that it is not 100% consistent. It mostly is, but sometimes I can have that turn-light on and the low-beams never fluctuate. Well at least for that instance. The next stop-light, the low-beams turn off.

BTW - The fog-lights never turn off with the turn-signals.

Also, on a side-note, the automatic daytime lights don't seem to be working. Well ever since I bought the truck back in 2012. I see that there are some other threads in regards to this matter and will read it later, but thought I would throw that out there just in case it might be related.

What do you guys think? Possible water leakage somewhere?

You could have an issue with the MFS ( Multi Function Switch ) that is causing the low beams to go off.
- I would expect the high beams to come on, but that is pure speculation.

Might want to start by testing the MFS.

You will want to test the functions with the turn signal portion of the switch in the off position and then in the right and left turn modes.

By automatic daytime lights do you mean Daytime Running Lamps ( DRL ) ?
- If so, you have to make sure your truck had this option from new, not all of them did. Look for the DRL enable relay and the DRL relay in the under hood aux fuse panel as a starting point. Next is the DRL resistor behind the driver's side ( ? ) headlamp.

Wanted to give a follow-up to my question earlier.

Indeed, SSCULLY was right.

Replaced the MFS and everything was working again.

For further reading, here is another thread another guy that had the exact same problem as me. http://www.fordf150.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=71914
Good to know it was the MFS. Easy fix, although not cheap.
