Question Wiring problem?

Okay so the fuel gauge decided it does not want to function does the drop below empty even when truck is full. My question is I looked under the truck as there has been rumor that the plug underneath the drivers door sometimes corrodes, poor planning, anyway I have a green wire with red stripe that is broken but not sure what it is for and if someone could give me a clue on the wiring harness that is under the cab would help too. I have searched on this site and also using google but seems to no avail. This is on a 2008 Supercrew 4x4 with the 5.4.

thanks
Jol

Do you always use the same fuel station ?

There is a TSB with high sulfur fuel causing the fuel gauge to not read correctly.

TSB 08-2-9
02/04/08
ERRATIC FUEL GAUGE OPERATION - MIL ON - DTCS
P0460/P0463 OR INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE
DTC B1201 - VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE 12/3/2007 FORD:

This may be caused by sulphur contamination in the fuel causing an open or high resistance in the fuel level sender. ACTION

Pretty much the same station, it is a convenience store but figure seeing as how they put power service in there diesel, when I had a diesel that they also may not get so carried away on there gasoline. I have put Chevron Techron in the tank as that was one of the suggestions. Hey it worked on daughters Subaru. Thing that is throwing me is no codes or anything just all of a sudden gauge decided it did not want to play. Thanks

When it happened to me I did not get a MIL indicator, the fuel gauge level reading was the only indication.

It was the one time case for me, normal station must have gotten a bad tanker of fuel.

After that time I have never had it happen again. I only purchase brand name fuels Mobil or Sunoco, in a pinch Shell or BP ( as a last option aside from walking )

This may be a coincidence but have noticed that a tree rat has become infatuated with the truck, so that being said may have to as soon as the snow and cold decide to leave the area get under there and look. Maybe the pestilence decided wire was a good thing.

Hey just an update on fuel gauge issue. Finally dried out no snow no rain got under truck there was a broken wire on the wiring from back of truck up along frame rail. Figured hey it is a broken wire can see it so can't hurt anything to put it back together so all is good gauge works all is good.
