remote start - cheap option?

I was looking at remote start - they offer them very cheap at places like Best Buy, from time to time...

I'm thinking that it's best done by Ford, though...

They quoted me $500 to do the install...if I just get the start button done - about $100 more per extra option I get wired in...

Sounds expensive to me - just thought I'd see if it seems in the ballpark of what is normal.

That's insane! Go with an aftermarket... I've had them installed in 4 vehicles, and never paid more than $200., and they all worked flawlessly! If your truck has a security chip in the key. You'll have to part with a spare so the remote can read it. If you have to get a key made, it'll cost you about $80.

I paid $400 and had factory remote start installed at my ford dealer. Included labor, parts, programming and two keys with lock/unlock, panic and start buttons.
