Air bag light code 4-2

Ok, the airbag light started flashing yesterday, I'm getting the 4-2. I found on here the most likely culprit is the front crash sensor. When I went to the dealer to get a new one, they asked left or right sensor. So what would my next diagnostic be? no other codes are being thrown, and my scanner isnt picking up pending codes. what to do? The new ones are $128 a pop so replacing both like my first reaction was, is kind of not the best option. Thanks in advance for any help

LFC 42 being the front impact severity sensor is a 2004 + MY item ( need to watch the MY in the profile )

LFC for a 1998 MY is a LH airbag error

Your scanner must not read B ( body ) codes, that is why you are not getting it ( most cheap ones are P powertrain codes ).

so not the sensor its self, but more likely a chaffed or broken wire? I'll chase the wires today and see what I can find

That would be my guess. Could be at the connector also.

I'm having sort of the same problem with my 2005 FX4. Took it to the dealer for the recall, air bag light was blinking before I took it in, recall fixed and they said the light was on before and had nothing to do with the recall they fixed. It is flashing 4-2, then stays steady. Before the recall it just flashed. I've researched this site and learned it could be the LH crash sensor and does anyone have any diagrams of where I might find this sensor and how to replace it or if that will fix the light?

No, with your MY you have the symptom that StuckInUT thought he had, need to watch the MY on the threads when comparing LFC.

the table above is for a 1998 MY truck, not applicable to a 2005 MY truck by any means.

The 2004-2008, LFC 42 is the Front Impact severity sensor ( has nothing to do with the recall )

woohoo fixed it, it was two broken wires right at the connector on the harness side. I tried to get a new one, but as per the parts guy at ford, it is not possible? and it wasnt on their connector sheet, go figure. They told me to go to the junk yard, or just connect them. So I disassembled the connector(marking where each wire goes), re-soderd the pins on to the now shorter wires, re-assembled and no more light. I really didn't want to half *** it on somthing like this, but this was the best i could do given the circumstance. I do believe a new pig tail is available or atleast the connector is, however im new to this area, and this is the only dealer I know of in the near vicinity, I will be finding a new one since they were less than helpful, and send my bussiness there. Anyways, Just wanted to give an update to what my fix was, I think it helps for the next guy doing their search. Thank you all for your help saving me $128.

Thank you for closing the loop, that will help the next member with the same symptoms.

if you were looking for a connector, try the Motorcraft pigtail catalog

http://www.fordparts.com/Products/Wi...gtailKits.aspx

Towards the bottom of the page is a PDf for download :

right click save as :
http://www.fordtechservice.dealercon...torcatalog.pdf

don't know if you are still looking for one, but this is an option to go through the catalog, and find the connector.

There are 6 pages of 2 wire connectors to compare the the LH airbag sensor connector to.

SSCULLY, in my research of the air bag code 4-2, I found a youtube video that said in the 2004 F150 there is only 1 impact sensor located in the front of the vehicle on the vertical bar in front of the radiator.

Correct.

You are quoting a LFC table for a 1998. This is not applicable to a 2004 MY truck.

Open the URL in post #8 above for a 2004 MY with a 4-2 code
https://www.f150online.com/forums/el...tc-42-fix.html

3rd time in this thread:

LFC charts are not interchangeable between MY's

Even in a given series there can be different LFC tables.
eg: 1999 to 2003 look the same, but there are 3 different builds in that series.

Installed the front impact sensor in my '04 F150 in 15 min. Easy as can be, disconnected the negative terminal for 10 min (youtube recommendation), removed the old one, applied WD-40 to all connectors and grounding screw and re-attached it to truck, good as new no Airbag warning light is gone!

Purchased the new sensor online @ Amazon (
Amazon.com: 6L3z14b004aa Sensor Assembly Oem Ford: Automotive Amazon.com: 6L3z14b004aa Sensor Assembly Oem Ford: Automotive
), 6L3Z14B004AA (new part number) Sensor Assembly OEM Ford for $68.

AAA Car Care Center in Manassas VA wanted $110 to diagnose the problem + part cost... I saved $42 just on the diagnosis, they probably would have gotten me for $100+ for the part alone.
