Brake light on dash

Ok so the red brake light on the dash has been flickering since the beginning of winter and now it's on all the time. I replaced the switch on the e-brake and put a new master cylinder Res. On and the Damn light is still on. When I unplug the wires from the float it goes out so I tested the wires. Black wire has ground and the tan with green in the center has ground which according to the wiring diagram should be a hot feed from the cluster as is the green with red tracer. Now I know there is a short to ground somewhere. Has anyone else ran into this and I wonder if this may be part of the airbag/ wire chaffing recall that Ford just put out.2006 STX 4x4 4.6L. Thanks

Dark Green w/ Yellow is Fluid Level switch
Tan w/ Light Green is fluid level switch return

This is from the factory service diagram ( EVTM 60-2 ).

The return can show as ref to ground when tested with a meter.

Have you tested the fluid level switch, to see what it shows ? ( fluid full and empty ) ?

The recall is about the airbag wire harness chaffing on the horn mounting plate ( on the clock spring ).

Yes it is full and it is a new resevore I put on with a switch and still same problem as soon as I plug it in the light comes on and the float is all the way at the top. Not sure. BTW I used a power probe and it was showing same ground as the black ground.

The return can show as ground.

Are you sure the connector it in good shape ( not loose so the pins move around ) ?

If you unplug it, and the brake light goes out on the dash, that would not be a short ( the condition would stay with or without the fluid level plugged in ).

The condition only goes away when you unplug the fluid level ( you make nte of changing the parking brake switch, not too sure why )

Something new to add. The light came on today 3 random time while driving and the level switch is still unplugged. This is driving me nuts.

Check the switch on the parking brake mechanism. It also turns on the same BRAKE light as does the fluid level switch.
